Amp Kit
Jokerjkny mentioned amp kits to me a while ago.
What are good amp kits out there? I saw a few Plexi kits out there when I did a yahoo search, but don't know what to trust. I would be interested in a Plexi kit, Fender type kit, and maybe something more high gain as well. Anyone know what's out there? |

Allen Amplification has a few kits that are based on, but not clones of, some blackface amps. www.allenamps.com
MIssion Amps has a couple of tweed kits -- a Deluxe and a Super (though the Super kit is not yet up on his website). www.missionamps.com |

Don't forget to look at the GDS 18 watt kit, a clone of a Marshall 18 watter.

They're based on the AX84.com architectures but you might check out the kits sold by Doberman amps.

A few thoughts:

http://www.marshamps.com/kits.html http://www.missionamps.com/5e3.html http://www.mojomusicalsupply.com/cgi...y/se=kits.html By-far, Mojo has the broadest line of kits, including tweed, Marshall a BF Deluxe and others. http://www.allenamps.com/kits.html http://www.dobermanamps.com/shop.html These are a few places to get you started. Hope this helps.

Well.....

Honestly, I've toyed with the idea, but would rather not. I often get offers to sell the mod boards overseas, but pass that up too. My dance card is quite full. Even with help, I'm plenty busy with the mod program and Fuchs new production right now, plus some future product designs I'd like to make, and a few offers to design some things for other companies. which came up at NAMM. Obviously (from my post) you can see there's lots of guys with a head start ! I think lots of these kits offer a really good value, would give you an excellent amp when done, and teach basic soldering and electronic techinques.

I built the 1x12 Allen Accomplice with my daughter last summer, and it was a really fun project. Allen provides all of the parts, comprehensive instructions and technical support if you need it.
Also as mentioned above, Forum member GDS Racing (Graydon, Stuckey) sells his Mini-18W as a kit. Graydon's website is www.gdsamps.com. Scott Peterson is putting one of Graydon's amps together, and maybe he'll comment on it. FVB

I'm in the middle of building one of Bruce's Mission Amps 5e3 kits.
It's a lot of fun and very satisfying. I got about 6 hours into it, with about 2 hours to go. Discovered my kit was missing the rectifier tube, so I just called it quits until I get back into town this weekend. I'm already planning on my next kit. Probably build a GDS 18 watt Marshall. They say it's addicting and I can tell you, i'm not even finished withmy first one and i'm already planning my second!

Well, it's been a month of my playing my little Tweed Deluxe homebrew, so I thought I'd report back in when I saw this thread.
I think I hit a home run. It was really a lot of fun. It has gotten me into the entire amp building thing in terms of learning circuits, trying to understand them I should say. Now I"m reading books and stuff, trying to get a better grip on the stuff. I can say this.... I"m planning my next project. It's addicting for sure. I'm also looking to grab a "cheap" silverfaced Fender to open her up and rearrange the furniture a bit to see if I can tweak things some. I"m hopelessly addicted to this stuff.

you can get a 100W Plexi kit from www.metroamp.com
I've never used them but Legendarytones gave them a good writeup on their JTM45 board |
