Any womanizer's out there?
I'm in search of a replacement for my Johnson J Station AND a kick ass overdrive / distortion pedal that can sit in front of anything (tube OR SS or modeling amp). The local store has a Womanizer "pedal/preamp" that he is trying to unload for around $225. Anyone using one of these BOTH as a DI into a DAW (Sonar, Reaper) as well as in front of an amp (or through effects loop) for distortion Rhythm and lead/boost? The clips sound great, but my studio speakers kick ass so I don't know for sure. This has to work well for both situations. Here are the clips:

I had one for a while. It records well. Using it live was a problem - it is BIG and requires the line lump (no way to run it off of any other power supply. It sounded great, but took up too much real estate. I actually had both the Womanizer and a Deamonizer. I preferred the Womanizer FWIW.

I've got one and I think it sounds great. Have a couple of pedals in front of it and I use it direct to board. I've never tried it in front of an amp.

I have heard the Womanizer, and I really like it. I plan to get one. I do have the Damage Control "Timeline" pedal however and I love it. They are big and take the line lump as mentioned by LittleWiggler. I probably would not use mine if I was still touring, but I use it very much in my studio.

I have a womanizer and a Glass Nexus. My set up is...
Guitar --> Womanizer --> ISP Decimator --> Morley Vol/Wah --> Glass Nexus --> Direct Box ...No amp. We use in ear monitors. I run the Drive about 3/4 up, and the Comp about half way. that way when I engage the Nuke, it doesn't blow something up. When I want a clean sound I just lower the guitar's volume pots. So far this has worked very well live. ![]() The Glass Nexus has very cool sounds. You have to tweak some for best results (as with anything). What I don't like about the Nexus is that 6 months from now, you will have no idea what effect or settings you stored. There is no display or indication for that. But, I suppose it's not suppose to be that type of pedal. Unless of course you get an expansion midi controller. I have not done this yet. So I cannot comment on that. Anyway, Dammage Control Rocks in my book! :RoCkIn |

Here are a couple clips of the tone...
Splash Mummy Rock Star is done with my Austin Les Paul. Struttin' is done with my Ibanez's bridge humbucker. No it won't get completely clean and yes the volume does decrease a bit. But what I found is that when I'm playing clean, the song is usually in a low volume state anyway. And when I'm rockin', I need the extra volume to cut through. It actually seems to work well this way. But it might not work for everyone. |
