Ok. I`m selling my soul to the digital devil, but need some tips.
It`s come to the point where it`s just too practical, in comparison, in so many cases, that I`m getting a floor modeling thingy.
Issue is offcourse that it is said around that the best sounding (POD), has an issue with feeling right, which is why I`ve really just ignored modeling in general so far. So I`m basically wondering: 1) Is there a way to, at least slightly, remedy this lack of feel issue? 2) Is this something lightly to be fixed by an software upgrade or do you think I`d have to buy a new box when they finally might get a handle on this? Thanks

Hmmm.
I went down that road a few years ago and quickly took a u-turn. Now I use mailnly analogue with a Yamaha MS to cover any modeling duties needed, as well as for backup should my combos go down. The problem was that everybody had PODs and all sounded the same!!! Nojo is right, using your favourite pedal is a better option. I've found that some of the earlier line 6s don't like to see anything at all in front of them though. |

It will only be used when there aren`t real options, when I need to travel far and to remote places. You know, when even bringing a small combo is a real hassle and there always is a small PA or active monitor somewhere in the house. Also I guess it`s a cheap and light backup for any cover band gig.
I mainly thinking about the XT live latest version, or whatever it`s called. It`s practically a free and weighs nothing compared to my other stuff. I wouldn`t care much if it was lost or damaged either. btw. Does this thing have any sort of looping feature?

I've found the vox valvetronix to have a better feel and more authentic tubey sound than the line6 or digitech stuff I've tried. Still not perfect of course, but better. The Line6 stuff has a weird, brittle high end to me on all their sounds.

Are you talking about using a modeling device only and going direct? Or, putting it in front of an existing amp?

Mostly about going direct and having a backup. If there was a box with two channels, my default blackface and plexi sounds, that took my pedals as such, that sounded right straight into the board and I could add bit of reverb/delay, that`s all I`d really ever need. Freaky sounds can be handy for theather and stuff, but I`m hardly ever asked to do that on the guitar.

Try the Radial Dragster in front of it to set the initial impedance. Works great! I don't use the POD, but I still run the Dragster in front of my pedal board and it really works.

I know a number of experienced folks here would urge you to check out the Tonelab LE (the new one). Reported to be even better than the quite good Vox predecessors.

My needs being so basic, I`m offcourse starting to think now that maybe something like the Lovepedal 1/2 watt, combined with a really good speaker simulator, like the upcoming Suhr, might be a better choice?
Anyone tried the 1/2 watt direct?

From what I hear, the Vox Tonelab is the best by a notable amount. Line 6 stuff is "generally" good but there's something about them I'm just not fond of.

Quote:
1) Fractal AXE-FX 2) Boss GT-8 3) Vox Tonelab. The AXE-FX is in a class of it's own and sounds better than anyone's analog pedal setup. At $2000 its also cheaper than many of the pedal boards I've seen on this forum. The GT-8 and Tonelab (plus any other MFX - except the AXE) will sound much better with a Radstone Harmonic Converger fitted in the loop. With a HC it'll sound as good, as tubey and as real as any analog pedal setup. I 've got both and A/B them regularly. Check out this link for a good comparison of MFX's by Kewlpack. http://forum.thestompbox.net/showthread.php?t=5765 TheStompBox,com forum also has good mp3 clips you can listen of MFX's before and after a Harmonic Converger. Then check out my post some months ago on Boss GTCentral comparing the digital and analog options at http://bossgtcentral.com/forum/showt...log+stomps+GT8 So yes, most of the weaknesses and issues with digital modellers have been resolved in the past few years and it will eventually take over from analog effects over the next 10 yrs IMHO.

I haven't heard the Axe-FX. Of the other two, I much prefer the GT-8. Line6 is a non-starter unless you like insane amounts of gain. |
