Vox V941 VALVE EFFECTS LOOP BUFFER

Vox V941 VALVE EFFECTS LOOP BUFFER .......

Can someone tell me...in laymans terms ..... what this is used for ?

I have a board w/about 8 pedals, depending on the day, from Wah to distortion, flanger, chorus, fuzz, etc going into an AC15.

What would I use the V941 for ?

Don`t want to sound dumb but you gotta ask to learn

Thanks, Mike

I owned one of these units...for literally a day. It's basically a tube gain stage, used to buffer and match signals with effects when using an amp's effects loop. Out of curiousity, I tried running it into the front of my amp to see if you could sweeten the signal or overdrive the tube, but it didn't do that much. I don't really see the need for it, unless you have certain effects that you need to drive harder, or boost the output (again, when it's in an effects loop.)

I do think the red front panel and Vox logo looks really cool though!

I ended up flipping mine for the price I bought it for one day after I bought it. Quickest in-and-out ever...

All best,
James

I had one for a while. I ran it in the loop of a rack mount preamp, mainly because the knob on the Vox was big enough to grab on stage for volume adjusrment. It did sweeten the tone a tad and I did run my effects through it also. Mostly rack mount time based stuff as I think that was it's main purpose aside form adding "tube warmth" which could be debated as to how well it did that. I also remember it being a bit noisy under certain conditions.

I use my V941's for matching the impedence differences between devices and my amp's fx loops. I like them & I'm looking for another. So if you ever want to part with it , let me know.

vox loop buffer

I used the v941 just for what it says...buffering an effects loop. I had a Fender Prosonic which had an effects loop send out the back, the problem was it sent out such a strong signal to my Alesis guitar midiverb rack mount unit that it completely clipped out and sounded like garbage. I found the Prosonic to be extremely loud and muddy in the clean channel.

So it took a long while before I found the solution in the v941 (I had tried a lot of things). Basically I used it for buffering the signal into the Alesis so it wouldnt clip out, then when the signal returned to the v941 I could boost it back up before sending to the amp. The benefit was in having the Alesis rackmount effects to help with the prosonics overall tone. A little compression and the 5 band EQ really cleaned up the clean channel. It was a whole other amp after that, too bad the Prosonic didnt sound that good in the first place !

Bumping an old thread, because mine crapped out on me. It's an essential part of my rig and I need to replace it.

Here's a good explanation of it: http://www.voxshowroom.com/uk/amp/buffer.html

If anyone has one to sell, or know of a similar piece of gear that will do the same job, please respond. Thanks so much.
