Need clean boost... mxr micro?

Need ideas for clean boost. Just an organic natural boost.

I thought the RC was too spendy for what it is and did not bond with it but I have been changing out a bunch of gear. The mxr micro looks good at $80 but have not tried. No sure if it has true bypass.

Anyone use/try the mixr micro?

I am playing a tele to a timmy to a tube amp (so I have really paired it down). I have tried boosting the timmy completed maxed which is killer sound for my combo as well as just boosting the front end of the amp. I am surprised that with a tele (tone rolled back) a boosted timmy, I can get a killler distortion.

Any other ideas on clean boosts that don't break the bank?

I have two timmys for just that reason.

I also have a katana. . . but its off the board for now. . . i can dial in my katana sounds that i like on the timmy with no problem.

One timmy for the drive, one for the boost. Best 210 dollars ever spent in that regard. I paid full price on my katana . . . and that was 180 bucks.

As far as the micro. . . not as "clean" as the timmy. You might like it. . . and it's really not a bad price at all.

for ME, the Timmy is THE bangforbuck clean boost out there. . . especially with that eq. . . fixes anything i dont like about my other drives/distortions.

Once in awhile, you can find a katana at about 125 bucks used. If you do. . . jump on it and try it out. YOu won't lose anything in the long run.

It sounded good to me bro. You definitely are getting good tone out of that rig and you SHOULD be questioning the thousands you have tied up in all that other gear. I think I need to go look in the mirror now.

I have one, and it's good. However, I prefer my 19 Sixty 3 pedal - it is smoother and I think it sounds better.

i used to have a micro amp. it's a great peadal for a cheaper or beginner level clean boost. it's a good deal for the money, no doubt. it is not true bypass, however.

if you'd like a nicer quality clean boost that aren't ridiculously expenseive. check out:

Kaden Pavo Booster
Catalinbread Super Chile Picoso

The MXR is a good boost. Another sleeper is the DOD FX10 Bi-fet preamp. A simple clean boost but with a tone knob for some variation. I doubt either is true bypass but suckage is minimal. If you just want more of your amp and guitar these are fine. I'd think you can find them for cheaper than $80.00 used.

I just got the EH LPB-1 Nano and it's a VERY good pedal. I'm about to write a short review. Check it out.

Also, what types of guitars and amps are you using? The LPB-1 adds a bit of bass boost to the signal and that may be a factor, depending on your amp/speakers, etc.

If you don't wanna spend much I think Nick Greer('Sonic Boost' I think) boost is around 100$ as well as Zinky Master Blaster - Keith Richards is using it!

I've got a Catalinbread SCP, you may wanna look into mini version that's tad cheaper (110 - no fat switch like my ol' Picoso, in fact I believe Erksin A/B'd them and reported they're the same!) the Serrano Picoso. I keep the SCP on all the time for that amazing shimmer/sparkle. Can be used as a pure volume boost and sounds great slamming the front end of the Tim for gain AND volume boost. Tim's first (basically a Timmy) channel is an awesome clean boost but lacks that Chili's special sparkle I find hard to describe.

Wish I had a chance to try the Katana, I really like the looks and push-pull option.

I love my Micro amp. Thank God it's NOT tone neutral. It has a slight treble/prescence boost that makes my amp and lead tone much happier. Minimal tone suckage? I haven't really noticed, not enough to worry about. When the pedal is on it's the small imperfections that makes it great for me.

I went the route of going for pedals that were tone neutral or non coloring. That gets too hi-fi for me. I have gone back to those pedals that have imperfect tonal characters to them, now my OVERALL tone is much better.
