Ampeg B-15N clone: does it exist?

I've never seen one. Probably the closest thing to one is the Ampeg B-15R which has now been discontinued. Maybe someday someone will bring this classic design back. It's underpowered by today's standards but with the proliferation of high end PA's the need for super-powered amps is diminishing a little bit. Here's my '67. It sounds like Butter!

Matchless made one for a short time. The last one I saw sold for $2800. There isn't a market for one, outside of the recording world.

Im building a custom b15n type amp right now for a guy. Its going to be much higher powered, but the b15n type preamp. Hopefully it doesnt suck.
![]() If it comes out well, it will be offered as a new model. sorry for the spam, but I thought this was appropriate in this thread. |

How close to 'the sound' is the Ampeg B100R or B200R?

The customer requested a head, so its going to be that. I figured a head would give people the most versatility, you could run whatever speaker you wanted to then. The amp is done, with the exception of the OT, which should be here soon.

Any clips and details when it is ready would be great.

Okay let's see if we can resuscitate this thread.
A while back I took in a B15N 1x15 combo on trade -- Late 60s I think. But there are a few "issues" 1) Tolex was removed from the cab, not the head mounting board though. 2) Grill was removed and then put back a little loosely 3) Stock speaker was replaced with a recent Emmi (which sounds great!) although a blue, ceramic Utah was included that might be th eoriginal or might not, not sure if it works or needs a recone. 4) Not sure of the electronic state although I can say this: It osunds louds and buttery and all the controls work. I believe the circuit is stock. The power cord needs to be replaced immediately as it is shorting. So here is my question, Assuming I fix the power cord, what is a fair asking price for this amp? Thanks- dg |

A B-15N preamp married to a V7 power section would be a killer rig and it wouldn't be difficult. FWIW, I liked my B-15 best with 6550 tubes but went back to 7027 for the sake of originality. I'd rather see that than a pure B-15N clone.

very. they are about 90+% of the sound while having enough power to actually use them live.

I have an early 70's B-15N that is my treasure. It is underpowered for anything other than studio, but I have found an excellent simulator. The Barber Electronics Linden. It's essentially the B-15 eq and runs at 24 volts for incredible headroom. Very sweet eq and can be dialed in for just a bit of "hair" if you wish.
Try one out! bigtexashonk@gmail.com |

the barber linden eq pedal is tremendous. it is what it says it is, a baxandall tone stack in a pedal format. nothing more nothing less; no extra dirt stages(Yay!)and it totally kicks ass. i'm in a band with a bassist who uses one every gig and every time he kicks it on we both smile. a superb pedal. highest recommendation and then some.
