Greeting from the Santa Cruz Mtns..CA

I had the misfortune to win the wrong Gibson GA15RVT on teh 'bay, and it's been something of a hobby ever since. My search for enlightenment re tube amps led me here, among other places.

On the odd day when it's together and doesn't sound too bad, I play an Epiphone Riviera Deluxe through it, or sometimes an old Japanese 330 knockoff, a Bruno Conqueror. I'm learning jazz, and play some simple blues.

I've also got a grand old Guild 12 string dreadnought, and Conrad (J. D18 knockoff) and a few others. I do most of my own luthiery, frets, nuts, saddles, etc, and am just starting on some tricky crack repairs on a nice Chinese 00 I got.

THanks for a great site, and all that I've learned here, so far.

Welcome, Andrew.

My Sis used to live off of Hwy. 17 right at the crest where the restaurant is(was?). I'm from SoCal and used to visit her alot up there. She was in Los Gatos before that. I LOVE that area. haven't been there in awhile. I'll be back though...!

Does Guitar Showcase still have a store in S.C? I know about the one in S.J., I used to go to both of them.

Hey Andrew,
I'm up here also, off Summit Road. Moved up here in 1978. Great place to be unless there's a fire or earthquake but that's life. Right now it's rookie season when all the flatlanders come up in their SUV's and cut Christmas trees. Some actually tailgate at the farms.

Lucid - I drove by Sylvan Music today but didn't have time to stop as I had my wife with me. Her tolerance level of time spent in music stores is different than mine. She once said, after I tried out several amps and closed a deal on a Boogie Mark IV, "that's not my idea of fun, standing around for 2 hours talking about black boxes". I loved it and now try to limit her exposure.

Welcome to TGP. I used to live in Fremont and loved that area.
I love SC and pretty much the whole north/central coast.
I pretty much hate living in Wisconsin, but - oh well.

Welcome to TGP...good by money! I'm over by Sylvan. You should check out the local blues jams on Sunday at the Fogbank in Capitola.

Santa Cruz'n again!
We surf all day,
and party all night!

Two of the modes live around here, Lucid'ian and Aolian. A Tone Guru, and a few of us rabble... And we've got a couple or three nice toy stores in the 'hood. As soon as I finish raising my little ones, let's get together and make a righteous loud noise!

Hi OlAndrew,

There are probably a bunch of us who can be found lurking about at Sylvan's. A couple of people who work there are on this forum, too.

Welcome to TGP!

Thanks for the good words....

That restaurant at the top of 17 seems to come and go. I get down to More and Sylvan now and again, More seems a tad pricey, at least on their vintage stuff.

Sylvan, now, that there is a terrible place, just fills my soul with lust and desire. I'm taking lessons at Guitar Showcase in San Jose, don't think there is one on the sea side of the hill. The San Jose location is great, wonderful selection, nice people, and they've always given me a bit of a break. Good prices on the vintage stuff, not cheap, but good for what it is. Consignment shop gets some very interesting stuff now and again. Goes fast, though.

I live on top of a mountain above Boulder Creek, when the weather turns good again, might be nice to have a Bay Area folks get-together & jam.
