So, you only want to have one amp....

....what would it be? I'm talking grab-n-go/gigging/recording/home time...Classic Rock, country, 'Stones' type raunch, decent edgy cleans...What would you go with? I know one amp could be seen as just insane for the gang around here, but I'm willing to take my chances....

I am becoming more and more convinced that one amp can't do it all perfectly. Having said that I think you really have to get the clean part done as close to perfect in tone and feel as possible. With all the amazing options in very fine OD pedals you can get very far with this scenario.

It would depend a bit on the guitar(s), but for my money I go Goodsell 17.

Ditto on the Gries as well.

I found my "1 amp" and it's a Fender '57 Tweed Twin......Stones, Zep,
ZZ Top, Cream, Chuck Berry, Jeff Beck, Pink Floyd, Brad Paisley,
Dire Straits, Setzer, .......just to name a few to smooth jazzy George Benson like riffs. I'm 55 years old and the '57 replicates all the sounds that I've grown up with and while I've owned other great amps ie, Dr Z's, Mesa's and other boutiques......they are NOT the sound I grew up with plain and simple. Currently there is a mint one for sale on TGP for $1400.00 which is an absolute steal........list is 3K with a street price of $2100.00.

If "grab & go" means...
smaller. lighter, combo, 'verb, 2-chan, fx loop, chock full of variety...

Considering lightness, versatility, and useable power rating, I'd go with my Reeves Custom 12 1x12 combo. It is my current grab and go for band practice and small gigs. Outstanding.

Although I own a few amps, the Bogner Shiva can fo it all for *me*. I can dial in a nice "edge of breakup" type tone on the clean channel with my OCD when I need it.Generally speaking, I can get a wide array of tones from those two channels.

I'm hoping it's the London Power Aurora amp. I have one on order, it has a lot of cool features. It has 12 voicing switches that you can use to get different voicing and gain structures. You can change from 0-25 Watts Push Pull or 0-5 Watts single ended (like a Champ.)

It also has a series or parallel effects loop that can be switched in and out of the circuit, as well as send and return level controls. You can use any type of octal power tube. Supposedly the amp can go from the cleanest pre tweeds up to the latest modern metal tones.

As you can tell I am really excited about this amp and can't wait to get it. I have high hopes for it, but only playing it will tell. The guy who designed it is the guy that writes the "Ultimate Tone" series of books about guitar tube amplification, so I have no doubt he will use all the tricks!

Here is the Aurora's site: Aurora
