Smile Hello from Boston

Hi all--

A jazz buddy suggested I join up. Looks good so far!

I have played mainly bluegrass the last few years, but have turned my attention to jazz and swing in a big way lately. It's tough to find music I don't enjoy, though.

I'm currently on the prowl for just the right Tele to balance my collection.

Anyway, glad to be here.

Hey DT,

I am in Belmont. Ever head to the Johhny D's blues jam or the Cantab bluegrass jams?

Hey,

I've been to Cantab jams from time to time, but it's a bit of a scene there and tough to navigate. Have played the Groton BBU bluegrass jams quite often.

I am about a 10-minute walk from Johnny D's, so I see some shows there from time to time. Haven't been to the blues jam yet.

Aha! I've often wondered where exactly the "ashen plains of Hell" were located. Watertown, eh? I never would have thunk to look there.

Been there, done that (Financial District.) Say no more.

Thanks for the Toad tout. Never have been inside, but a friend of mine has played there a bunch. I have a regular bluegrass session on Monday nights.

Heading to Club Passim tonight to catch Andy Statman's show.

Joe Val Bluegrass Festival, February 15-17 (Presidents Day Weekend) at the Framingham Sheraton. Lots of great bands, and some of the best hallway picking sessions you will find anywhere. Always sells out. IBMA Bluegrass Festival of the Year, 2006.

Monthly bluegrass jam at the Stagecoach Inn in Groton MA, last Saturday of each month, also sponsored by the Boston Bluegrass Union (bbu.org). All different levels of players, from beginners to pros.

Check the BBU's website for bluegrass jams, there's lots more in the area.

You already know about the Cantab in Cambridge; it's home to hot picking and under-the-radar appearances by top touring bluegrass musicians.

Welcome aboard. Traversing the "Financial District" daily and Hopkinton at night. Don't forget to check out Duke Levine usually at Atwoods Tavern...
