Recommend a humbucker-sized bridge pup that sounds...
clear and un-congested.
Without the thick mids that a humbucker usually has... BUT does not sound thin like a single coil in the bridge. I find single coils in the bridge to sound too tight, too thin for my liking. Well, the tightness is the main thing that bugs me... I find it unbalanced when compared to a neck single coil. Meanwhile, with humbuckers, which is what I'm using now, the mids do sound sort of congested. I would love to have something that has clarity but does not sound overly thin/mid-scooped/tight. Would a humbucker sized P90 work better? Or... what pups do you guys have in mind? I'm using a guitar that has a 1 pc mahogany body with carved maple top, bolt on maple neck with pau ferro fretboard. Floyd Rose. HSS. Humbucker is a 7.8k alnico 5 pup and using Dimarzio Area 58s. Cheerio! Daniel |

This is quite an interesting one... looks like it could just do it!
I'm not sure about the HFH... used it in the neck before... i don't think it will be what I want in the bridge... |

I was looking for a sound similar to what you mention. I found it with a Gibson SG Special Faded with the 490 pickups... Gibson calls them "modern classics".
So I can definitely recommend the 490t. It has lots of clarity and even sparkle with no mud, and yet it still has that humbucker smoothness and fullness. I've heard some players say it is too bright, but rolling back the treble (or the volume a little bit) fixes that. When played clean, roll the treble back up for a great clean sound. |

Bill Lawrence L-500C in the neck, L-500R or L in the bridge (R is brighter and lower output, I like the L). www.billlawrence.com.

Suhr DSV. Classic, clear Humbucker.

Bill Lawrence also has some noiseless sort of P90 pups (HB size) in different strengths of wind & clarity. You might give them a call & talk to Becky about what you need.

Lollar Imperial Humbuckers are great for the Bridge pickup.
Another choice, is to look at TVJones.com. They've got some interesting takes on "Gretsch" type pickups.

+1 for the Fralin P-92. They are very clear and articulate but also very full, rich and fat!

the TVJones are a good idea. I like my Z-90 in my bridge. a really big single. It has a good bit of bite but definitely not thin.

+1 on the Duncan custom 5 SH-14. I had it in a project guitar once; very balanced tone with clarity. Another choice might be a Fralin Unbucker. He's great at dialing in the tone you're looking for.

I'd recommend the Harmonic Design Z-90s as well. Extremely articulate, no mid hump, lotsa bite, works v well with mahogany.
