I have huge hands so a 12" is great for me, also I get a 1 3/4 nut where possible. I think partially it is what you get use to, but the first time I played a flatter radius guitar the sky opened up, choirs started to sing, and a voice said "this is your destiny my son...". Or something like that .........

The first thread I ever read at TGP was "fat necks have ruined me". the OP was someone who thought they liked a thin neck, but now can't stand them after working long sessions/gigs.
I like a good baseball bat with frets.. Way more comfortable, but it can't be so big that my thumb won't reach the bass notes when fretting a chord. |

I'm in the process of staining/oiling my first custom neck from Musikraft to replace the neck on my Strat. After much research I went with 10-16" compound neck and 1-3/4" nut size. It feels great even though its not installed and strung up yet. I actually wish I went with the Fat C instead of the Chunky C because it doesn't seem to much thicker than my stock Strat neck. I like em fat because I have ape hands!
Overall, I can play any radius though. The nut width seems to be more important to me. Anything under 1-11/16 feels horrible to me. |
