I got $400 for a new tube amp. What should I buy??

I have a series of small gigs coming up. Just me and a couple of vocalists. I'd like to have a tube amp that can sound good for these gigs. Clean sound is a must, but some good overdrive would be welcome. What's out there???

R&B/Soul/Blues

The Bad Cat is just too much and the Traynor is heavy as hell. The Orange is a toy.

The much loved/hated Fender BJr will get you by with your Monkey in front if you are not pushing it too hard. Master on full, Fat switch for boost only, crank up as needed (the amp!).

Look at Carvin. I have a Vintage 33. 1 x 12 33 watts. Great amp. maybe a tad over $400. Used on ebay about $350.

Peavey Classic 50 if you can find one.

The Crate Palomino V32 are on clearance at Guitar Center according to their recent circular. Those can be had for 300 and have a very nice clean sound. I had one within the last month and traded it to a guy who has a regular jazz gig. Said it was right up his alley.

Have any of you checked out the Peavey Windsor Studio? I've hearing rave reviews.

Absolutley...one of the nicest, most interesting and beautiful cleans I know of. Use a pedal for OD, the OD channel isn't that great though it does have its own EQ.

Check out the new Fender Super Champ XD too. 15W w/ lots, and LOTS of tone and choices. Around $300 new and $20 for the footswitch.

When I read the subject header I thought of the old joke "I got a car for my wife, seemed like a fair trade."

Used Crate VC30 or VC50, or a Peavey classic30? that's about the only thing I can think of for that price.
If you can find an old Traynor YBA or YGM for $400 you couldn't go wrong there.
