Randall KH2 and KH3 modules arrived

I was supposed to get the KH1 too, but it wasn't in the box Should be here in a week or so though. Anyway...Both of these modules are VERY cool. More open and articulate sounding/feeling than other modules, the taper on the controls are VERY nice/sensitive and offer plenty of range for all kinds of crunchy goodness.

The KH2 is the lower gain module while the KH3 basically starts where KH2 leaves off. Both can be dialed in for lighter or heavier tones though. They FEEL great to play too.

If anyone is interested in the MTS stuff, definitely check these out if you're wanting a beefy marshall type of tone. We all know the typical KH vibrato/wah jokes but don't let that fool you. Lots of people will dig these modules

KH2 and then KH3, same settings

"Lead" tone with gmajor delay, EMB Audio wah, and hand tape

Alternating KH2 and KH3
:00 to :14 KH2
:15 to :27 KH3
:27 to :30 KH2
:31 to :35 KH3
:36 to :43 KH2
:43 to end KH3

You have me gassing for one of these heads very badly. I just need to pony up and save the cash for one. I would love trading modules around until I get the tones I want.

That is the coolest thing about these amps! Trading the modules around! haha I have found the one I think is "my" tone, the JTM45 modded by Pete from the grailtone boards. It can do Fender cleans to Marshall Crunch in the same module its pretty awesome.

I played with the LynchBox at a local store that was closing them out over the winter...they were so clueless they had the head cab up for $799 and said it included the three MTS modules...So I whipped out the credit card all ready to buy and than someone stepped up and said each module was a few hundred extra...that really turned me off at what I thought was a great deal suddenly turned into an $1800 head.

But then again, it sound really good no matter what module was in there. I was impressed, and few newer heads impress me these days.

cool man. I don't want to like this amp or concept.

To be honest its hard to imagine him not playing a dual rec through a bogner straight cab.

Can you share more of your rig with us?

I have an RM100 and although I don't have the KH modules yet, I did get to hear them in person at NAMM when they were about to release them. I'm not a big Metallica fan but these modules did sound quite nice! Eventually I need to add them to my collection of MTS modules. And Pete over at Grailtone does really nice mods for the MTS stuff. I have an SL+ and an XTC done by him that I use quite a bit.

How does the XTC sound after being Pete-ized?! I really dug that module stock but for some reason it left... I've heard and felt the Pete SL+ and man that thing is just classic! I cant believe how awesome that one is. I love my JTM45 but man that SL+ is just a bad mutha!

It sounds much better. I have a few different mods for the XTC - one just replaces parts in the signal path with hand selected ones - gets a clearer sound (more definition) and a little brighter. Another mod replaces those parts for ones that are more 'xtc ish' - smoother overdrive. Yet another one revoices the midrange to make it a better lead module.

Lots of stuff you can do with the MTS modules!

Pete
