Are all Fender Custom Shop necks quartersawn?
Are all Fender Custom Shop necks quartersawn?
Were all Fender early 60's guitar necks quartersawn? I'm trying to figure out what neck to get and wonder how important quartersawn cut is... |

No, they are not
No, it was rare to see a quartersawn neck in Vintage Fenders Flat sawn necks are cheaper cuz you get more necks per piece of wood, and Leo Fender was "Frugal" it's not that important, some say quartersawn ring out more like an acoustic some same they are more stable to needing adjustments as the grain runs perpendicular to the fret board many think the differences are minimal |

Does anyone have pics showing the difference between quartersawn versus flat. Is it easy to tell the difference upon visual inspection?

Those are great examples pickaguitar. Fender is featuring 1/4 sawn on their relics with no finish on the back of the neck. Awesome feel on those. A percussive attack with a lot of power/energy is the way every 1/4 sawn neck I ever get sounds. You can put the neck on any body, basswood, alder, ash etc.. and it has that immediacy that I love for fast playing.

Anybody think that quartersawn necks lack sustain in the
upper trebles? On EJ strats I have tried, the notes just seemed to die off early on the high E past the 12th fret. Maybe a coincidence? Adam |
