best amp for $300.
Name the best amp you can think of for $300.
I have a guitar student and he is trying to get some gear but wants good tone. And I am always trying to give him the best bang for his buck. Like we started out with his mexican made standard tele, which sounds pretty awesome. Now were looking for an amp for him to use at home and live. Then the next step will be geting him a pedal collection. But I already game him so ideas. I wanted to know what you guys thought. |

I liked the Fender Blues Jr I had for that price. . . with the master volume, it's good for home and for gigs.

Fender Blues Junior with Bill M. mods. May cost $50.00 but the mods make the amp huge.

We play modern rock. It will be used in praise and worship most of the time, since the kid plays in the youth band.

Roland Cube 60 has a good tube tone plus some effects so he doesn't have large set up to carry every sunday service.

I have a Peavy Valve King Royal 8 pretty good for around $150 new, but the Epiphone is a lot better if you looking for tone, the Peavy has a lot of heavy distortion if that is what your student is looking for.

I like the Blues Jr., but for modern rock, he'll probably need more gain than it has available. I think a Roland Cube might be a good bet.

Hard to go wrong with a used Peavey Classic 30. I used one in a P&W band for several years. Built well, nice tones, and loud enough if you can't mic it.
If you're able to mic the amp, you might want to check out the new Blackheart. My friend used his at P&W rehearsal a couple of weeks ago. It's a really nice sounding amp and build quality is excellent - $250 new. |

There is no better amp for as little as you would pay for a Crate V32 palomino, but I don't know if you can find one for $300

You might want to give a try to the Fender Super Champ XD... Ok it's hybrid (which has more than a few advantages, like the ability to sound quite good at very low volumes.) but it really sounds great and has a level of versatility nothing in that price range can come close to.
