Bogner Mods, high gain?
Good morning/afternoon,
I have a slight situation, that I would like some input on from my extended GP family. I used to play in a metal band for 5 years however, my roots are in Zeppelin AC/DC and Clapton and fusion. SOOO, I have an opportunity to play in another Metal band. The band needs a 2nd player. However they use a 7 string. The riffs are killer and I could really get crazy with the lead work, and I think it could be fun. So now to the gear question.... I have a Shiva 6l6 combo. I sold my Recto Head a few months back. So if I audition and join up, I need to figure the amp situation out. There are mods available for the Shiva to bring it up to the Ubershall level of gain. Should I do that or find me another Recto? The mod is extremely easy to do and I can reverse it very easily. HELP. -Mike And I need a frikken 7 string.

![]() With that said, to buy you some time ,I think that maybe you should audition for the band at a rehearsal studio that has a recto setup and go from there. On another note, Get yourself a 7 strung asap ![]() All the best! ~R~ |

I´m not that familiar with the Shiva, but I´m thinking that adding a boatload of gain doesn´t necessarily make it metal. If the voicing isn´t like the Uberschall then gain like the Uberschall probably won´t make it metal like the Uberschall

Would the VHT Deliverance 60 do it?

I like 7 strings they are fun, but I have been jammin' on fusion for a while. So 7 strings should be fun. I am looking into a 2 Channel Dual Rec. However I am gonna hold off until I know I am in the band. Thanks for the input. I will say this, the Shiva can get very heavy, but not Mesa heavy. Thanks guys!

the quick answer is yes(the shiva can be modded to provide throttling uber low end).

I'd sell the Shiva and get an Uber or another modern high gain head.

I think I would rather try the Mod first and reverse it if I don't like it. Before I drop 1200 on a Recto. Which mods have you guys heard of?
-Mike

I played an amp owned by Snider ( and maybe you Matte), called the "Super Shiva". That amp had metal level gain for sure.

On the Bogner board/forum,theres a guy well known there for doing simple mods, and shares the info. Simple jumper wire across one one spot on the board . Check out his(BrentSP) high res pic of this.
