Yes it can, I thought the modulation sounded way too digital and was rather noisy, I always kept modulation off with the tape echo preset. I only had the first version firmware, not sure if anything changed since.

all I have heard are sound effects. I'm still thinking maybe a memory lane is the way to go for analog effects.

or a H&K Replex, the best at producing tape tones with natural sounding modulation in a stomp (big stomp) other than some older rack delays.

Ummmm....yes.....and then it will cook you dinner.

The tape delay is not as good as the RE-20 (BOSS his a homer on that one) but, damn, if the timefactor is not the be all end all of delays.

Hmm - I find that disappointing. While I like my DD-20, I find that it's tape emulation is just ok, not great. I actually like the GoudieFX Delay pedal better though it's not a tape delay emulation.

I have an Eventide Timefactor (just got it), Line6 DL4, and a Diamond Memory Lane on my pedalboard. The presets on the Timefactor sound a bit "icy" to me (compared to the ML and the DL4), but I haven't really played around with it much yet. I think the DL4 does very good emulations of analog and tape.
