Are Behringer pedals, in particular the DD400 worth a crap?

my inclination is to say that internally they are very similar to the boss pedals on which they are based.


unfortunately, they probably employ some cheaper parts (yes, cheaper than boss) and an obnoxious plastic enclosure.

I just picked up the new "Vintage Delay" which is Behringer's analog pedal in their series. After about a half an hour, it's pretty good. I think the Digital Delay is only, what, $30?

i got one on ebay figuring that for the price, what the heck (if i don't like it, i'll try to circuit bend it). it's not that good. the delayed notes have a very pronounced phasing sound. oh - at the same time i got a chorus orchestra (also kinda crap) and a vibrato pedal (which others here have already sung the praises of - it is pretty killer sounding). also - they are all surface mount components, so you can't modify (or easily circuit bend) them.

I worked in a music store that sold Behringer. One year at NAMM, the owner of the store asked the Behringer rep, "How do you guys sell this stuff so cheap?" The Behringer rep took out a screwdriver and took the back off one of the pedals. He told the owner to hold out both of his hands. In one hand he put the back of the pedal and in the other hand he put the top.

The back of the pedal is a weight to make the pedal feel more durable than it really is. The Behringer rep even stated that they did that to "Simulate the feel of a BOSS pedal." He then went on to make fun of the people who bought Behringer pedals. True story.

If they sell the pedal for $30 at the music store, it probably only cost Behringer $5 to build it...then they sold it to the music store for $10...now the music store is selling it for $30.

It's the same with anything really. I mean, do you think a Landgraff OD really costs $399 to make??? It probably costs $100 if that....but boutique builders always like to charge for their "time" which is a very subjective gray area. I mean, I feel like my time is worth $400 and hour.

Supply, demand, and profit margins.

Behringer is crap and the people who sell it are slimeballs. But a lot of music companies are slimeballs. If you like it, buy it and use it.

the dd100 is pretty cool,its definitely worth the 30bucks.

from what ive heard the vintage delay(analog)is giving high end delays a run for their money.
