Good Mic's with On/Off Switches

do any exist? with quiet switches? I need one for live use. we run our own sound and I only sing backup on some songs. i'd like to be able to turn it off when not needed rather than mess with the mixer. I use a Cheap Sennheiser EVO with a switch but the switch is starting to pop a bit so I'm looking for a new one

You could probably convert a guitar FX pedal into a box that could do the switch trick for you. Just wire the switch that it grounds the input (both hot and cold) in one position, and lets it pass through to the output in the other position. You could even add a LED if you wanted. Don't use this with phantom power though.....or you'll need to install blocking caps.

Cheers

Kris

Not the greatest mics, but SM58's can be ordered with switches ... (SM-58 S)
They do make 'cough boxes' that mute a mic line.

I'm looking for the exact same thing and was thinking of trying the SM58S. Is it decent enough to get by with backing vocals?

I inherited a pair of Crown CM-200A handheld electret condenser mics. They're very detailed mics and the switch is absolutely silent.

I used Shure SM-57's and 58's for years on stage. They are durable and affordable. They do tend to emphasize the bass as you get closer to the mic. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. The switches were always quiet and very handy.. especially when some drunk is up in your face asking for Stairway to Freebird for the 17th time.

I replaced our stock SM58 cables with the cables that have the on/off switch (a little ring) where it plugs into the mike. They work great. Rule in our band, if you're not singing, your mike is off. Check Musicians Friend, etc.

Hosa also makes a little on/off switch that fits between standard cable and input into mike. I use one of those in my home studio. Works great.
