Can someone recommend a decent quality Digital Multimeter?

There is a place right by me that stocks this meter and was wondering if anyone could comment on it or recommend one that is decent. I am looking for something that can test capacitance, HFE, and preferably inductance.

I would only be using it to test components for my own personal pedal projects. Nothing important so I don't want anything TOO expensive, but I don't want to end up with something of poor quality. Are Circuit Test brand meters ok or junk?

Thanks!!

Fluke meters are probably the best, you can buy them used on ebay all the time.

I think you should try out the meter at the place and just see. Bring a couple of caps, etc.

I notice it looks similar to one I have that is supposed to measure capacitors, but the holes, the place you are supposed to put the leads of the cap down in, is DEEP...you have to have brand new caps, with at least 2" of lead on them both sides. Meaning you can't measure components that you have already in a circuit (WHY do they do this?).

Just good to actually see how it measures, how easy to set up (I have one that I like a lot but the "tripod" part of it doesn't work at all...so it is always in a bad position to read the display, really annoying. Otherwise an okay voltmeter, and I would never think of asking in a store "does it stand up okay?" but it makes a huge difference for me.

I found that some of the cheapo are just as good, and you could go through 4 of them and still have used less money than on an expensive one. Important things to check are what max voltage, and current (especially) it can handle, I would think they must be, but check that it is fused in case of overload, etc.

Mytek. Highly regarded, and has a long manufacturing history. In my experience, they make a good product (I own a Myteck 8x24 DAC), and I feel "morally" okay supporting their hardware because it is made in Eastern Europe rather than China.
