Best pedal to leave always on for a little dirt
What pedal would you use to get a bit of overdrive in front of a Bassman 4X10, like if the amp was turned up a little more?
The amp has decent headroom, so I'm afraid that a boost wouldn't be enough. I'd like to leave that pedal always on and starting from there, since I never play completely clean. Thanks |

Hi Luca,
I just got an Analog.Man King of Tone in the post yesterday, and after having played it for a few hours now, I'd say that it'd be great for doing what you describe. The yellow channel, in specific, with the gain turned up would get you there, assuming you wanted just a little bit of gain. If that's not enough, you can always switch to the red channel and turn the gain down a bit... Also, the BJF honey bee OD is worth checking out, as many consider it to be the king of low gain pedals. Very touch responsive and "amplike" pedal. While it's a bit pricey and somewhat hard to find, it's well worth the money, search and wait, IMO. Good luck. |

TIM or Timmy. Most natural, "your amp turned up louder" overdrive out there. Honey Bee is a good one too.

I'm using a Catalinbread Silverkiss Mk II for this. Lots of Eq options, reasonable price, sounds great.

A big +1 on the Honeybee!

Big +1 for the Honey Bee. If you want some extra sparkle and a spinkle of dirt, the Gaspedal Carb is another good choice.

Plenty of options. It depends on your taste. Timmy is my favorite (gritty), or the King of Tone (smoother). Then there is the Keeley BD2 (gritty) or the Boss OD3 (smooth). . . and then again. . . the Silver Kiss (either version. . . gritty).

I'm going to go against the grain and say a Digitech Bad Monkey. It's cheap, doesn't change up the tone too much, and plays nice with my other pedals.
Now, I don't have any heavyweight boutique pedals, but I like my Box of Rock and Keeley TS9 quite a bit. The BM works well with my DRRI and, while I had it, worked excellent with my Ampeg Reverberocket. I picked my BM off of the Emporium for a great price of $30 bucks...and it's been a great pedal for exactly what you're describing.

That would be the Roger Mayer Voodoo-1.

I like the Sparkle Drive for this. I used to leave it on in the loop, it adds a bit of dirt, but also tightens things up a bit!

Another one for Timmy. The Timmy knocked the Barber Ltd. right off of my board.
