Which Flanger

So I was making a quick demo for my worship leader today and out of the blue used the flanger effect on my pod 2.0 with a slightly dirty tone for some lead lines. I love the almost mournful sound that is produced.

I have to get a Flanger for my board (when the rest of the stuff arrives) I'm guessing I don't need anything too fancy if I liked what the Pod gave me. But can anyone recommend a decent one, it will be pretty much used for lead work rather than rhythm.

I've always dug the Boss Flangers, you could pick up an older BF-2 for pretty cheap. The newest Boss BF-3 is neat in that it has tap-tempo. The Ibanez/Maxon FL9 is great too, you can also get some nice chorusy textures out of it.

Of course, there's always the MXR, but it takes up a little more real estate on the board...

An old Deluxe Electric Mistress with the power cord not the wallwart. The newer ones are noisey as can be without mods. It's big though. Big pedal....Big tone.

I have an old Yamaha Analog Flanger. FL-01. These sound great! Hard to find but every once in a while you can get one on the bay. Self oscillation and warm analog sound. Have a look at the ratings on harmony central. You'll love it.

Here's a comparison of a bunch of different flangers (with sound samples), hopefully this helps. The FL9 for example is a great flanger IMO.

Yeah, if you are wanting to use flange for rock/metal, you should look at the MXR flangers.

I have3. A Maxon FL9, Fulltone Choralflange and Rocktron Hypnotic Flange.

Maxon wins without a doubt. Rocktron is number 2 and only cost about 90.00.

I'm also using a Maxon fl-9 sounds very good and has a small footprint.

When some of you say the FL9, do you mean the reissue? Does it have true bypass now too:RoCkIn

I'll say this. The best I ever used was an A/DA circa 1980....Second best was an old Electric Mistress....Currently I'm using a mild Flange, so I went with the Fulltone Choralflange. I hate the Chorus on the pedal though, too metallic. I was going to get a FL-9 but never got it. As far as the MXR Flangers go, from the past ones I tried, they were noisy
