Boutique version of Boss DS1 Distortion

What's the boutique version of this old warhorse?

No, I meant the DS1, but my fat fingers reversed it in the title I have since edited the title, in case people wonder what you meant.

Thanks for the catch.

Looking for a boutique-quality pedal that will give super fat leads, thick with more distortion than any sane person would actually want.

There are lots of people that have upgrade mods for that pedal... unless you have to have the true bypass I'd go that route.

How about one of the modified DS-1 pedals from Keeley or Analogman?

I'm cool with the suggestion of an upgrade.

Just wondering if someone else is already making a TB / no-tone-suck amazinng thick super distortion box.

What about the Box of Rock? Does that pretty much do the super-distorted thing? The BOR has a clean boost as well.

I'm no expert on the DS1, but what about the MI Audio Crunch Box?

CMATMODS is what i use too, but his modded DS-1, check out that "Sample 1" link at the bottom here, it's spot on to what's on my pedalboard right now:

About the Boss DS-1 CMAT Rectifier Tri Gain

This mod was just a great stroke of insight. This mod will give you the DS-1 AND the Rectifier mods in one! Using a toggle switch allows you to have rich smooth distortion of the rectifier mod or the thick fat distortion and sustain of the regular DS-1 mod.

The following MODs are performed:
Several Hi-Fi Mods
Tube Tone Mod
Smoother Gain Mod
Clarity Mods
Rectifier Diode Mod
More Bass & Mids Mods
Brighter LED Mod
Following parts are used:
Three Tantalum 1uF Capacitors
Four .1uF Metal Film Capacitors
Two Boxed Metal Film Capacitors
One Carbon Composite Resistor
Two 1N34A Germanium Diode
Super Bright LED
Sound Samples
Played entirely through a Boss DS-1 with the Rectifier mod. A Strat through a stock Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amp mic'd with a SM57. The Uni-Vibe type Chorus effect is a Yamaha MagicStomp II. A modded CS-3 Opto Compressor is used on this mp3.
Sample 1: DS-1 Rectifier

Box of Rock has nowhere near the gain of a DS-1. Definitely not a super distorted pedal.
Box of Metal, yes.

cheers

Boss DS-1 CMAT Rectifier Tri Gain
This is Monte Allum's kit installed. I actually inquired with the fellow who is "CMAT" (I forget his name) all this to say, I have the Monte Allum DS-1 Rectifier Tri-Gain and it is really freaking great. I highly recommend it.

Whether you have someone install it or do it yourself, it will not disappoint. And after the mod is complete, there is MORE gain than before depending on what mode you have the switch in.

DO IT, it will be the best 31.00 you ever spend.
