Best 8" Speaker?

What would be the best 8" speaker to buy if I'm looking to overcome the boxiness of a 1x8" combo amp? I was thinking of giving the Jensen P8R a shot, but I know nothing of how it sounds. I realize it's impossible to turn a 1x8" combo into a Twin, I'm just hoping to improve it.

Anyone have any experience with smaller speakers? Looking to get something that sounds more open and dynamic. Any advice welcome! Peace

I have a weber vintage series alnico 8" that I put in an old sidekick 15. I drive it with a fuchs lucky7. I absolutely love the raw sound from the small alnico speaker in the open back cab.

I have a Weber 8F150. If anybody is interested, pm me. It is too dark for the amp I have it in...at least in my taste. My guitar player thought it sounded great.

I've tried about every Weber in the Vintage Series....good stuff.

How are the Weber Blue Pup 8 and the Signature 8"ers? They are a lot more affordable than the Vintage Series 8"ers so I wanted to see how they measured up.

I think the cabinet has more to do with the "boxiness" than the speaker.
You may want to invest in a bigger 1X10 or 1X12 cabinet to house the chassis.

i have a weber blue pup in my vox pathfinder 15r and thought it made a great improvement. oh, and although you may be doing this already, i recommend tipping the amp back (either by leaning it against something or by using legs or an amp stand) so that it's pointed more at you... a small speaker cabinet aimed at your ankles never sounds like much!

To answer a few questions: What would some of those Webers be akin to? Is the Weber 8" Alnico the same as like an Alnico Blue?

to slider: I agree, but I'm trying to keep the cabinet the same and very portable. So, just trying to compensate.

mkolesa: I'll check it out. I've been keeping it on my desk when I practice, so it's pointed almost directly at my face if I'm sitting down.
