Single Recto vs Single Recto

Is the extra mode (Raw) on the version two much of an improvement on the single Recto. I have the chance to pick up an original model and wondered if it would be better to wait around for the version 2?

I'm not that impressed with the Raw setting. It sounds like it's trying to be "classic rock" but it doesn't quite get there. That type of sound is not really Mesa's bag anyway. I have mine for the Modern setting when the gig calls for it. That's where that amp shines.

Thats what I want it for too. I can recreate a "classic" sound if I want that through pedals I think. Got enough! ;-)

I played a Series One Rectoverb for years and loved the gain in modern mode. It was very Van Halen Brown sounding, but didn't have the "sizzle" sound of the Dual Rectos to me. (a Good thing). The series II adds a bit of that sizzle but the Rectoverb still sounded sweeter to me than the dual recto.

I never really dug the raw mode. You could get a better classic rock sound just by staying in modern and dialing the gain back below noon.

I recently switched to an Orange Rockerverb 50 but it had more to do with the clean channel and the lush reverb than any issues with the dirty channel.
