Midi Cubase Help

I need some help getting Midi to record in cubase sx... It shouldn't be this hard...
I have an ouput signal, but no input signal, so when its "recording", it doesn't leave any music....
i.e. I can hear what I'm playing on my keyboard when it's supposed to be laying down the track... and I can hear my other tracks as well, but alas, no midi track is laying itself down

Cubase SX
Project5 v2
M-Audio USB Mini-Uno Midi Interface
Motu 2048

thanx for any help

First off Midi doesn't leave audio it only leaves midi info. So when you record in Cubase you need to set the midi input of your channel to whatever source you are recording. Midi port, VST instrument etc. At that point you need to record enable your midi track and hit record on the transport. You should see the info as you record. Once it's recorded you need to set the midi output of that channel to the device you are trying to trigger. There is also a Cubase forum that will probably be of more help.

Are you recording the MIDI output of your keyboard? Are you using the sound from that keyboard, or are you using it to play a VSTi?

yeah, just trying to record what I play on my keyboard using Project5... Dimension et. al. ... I've tried using Project5 as inputs and outputs, M-Audio USB, and nothing works... I can hear what I'm playing, and record what I'm playing, but no data is included with the recording... Frustrating to say the least... I've tried all possible midi settings in the Project5... I can record just fine in Project5, but when I try to lay down a midi track in Cubase, no luck

It cou;d be that you don't have everything configured properly in Cubase. If you go to preferences in Cubase there are settings and also a midi device manager.
