Happy Birthday Les Paul!

93 years young today! Imagine if he had never challenged the norm and just accepted the status quo. He is a visionary and should be an inspiration to us all to question all the guitar "truths" we are force fed everyday...

Happy Birthday Les! I'm reading my new copy of Robb Lawrence's new Les Paul book titled "The Early Years of the Les Paul Legacy - 1915-1963".

It's a great book (words AND pics - GRIN), and all of us who play and record electric guitars owe Les Paul a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid.

Thanks Les, and Happy Birthday! Dana O.

He's a super mensch.
I had him sign a Stratocaster trem cover.
I"m not sure he noticed what it was, but I think he would have gotten a kick out of it.
There's a small but important mention of him in my book and I was happy to present him with a copy.
And I quote. "When people meet me, they're surprised by two things. That I'm not a guitar. And that I'm not dead."

He is the greatest! I've been lucky to meet him and hear him several times over the years and he's amazing. Spent probably 40 minutes one night at Fat Tuesday with him after everyone had left. His son Rusty, had to literally drag him out to go home, and not because I'm so interesting, but because he genuinely loves meeting and talking shop with folks.

As Les always writes...."Keep Pickin'" Les, can't wait till your 100th. It will be a huge jam session no doubt!

Happy Birthday Les-you are truly an American icon and a cherished part of American music history, not to mention a great inventor, innovator and all around terrific individual. I am so fortunate to have seen you perform at Iridium in 2002 and also get the opportunity and privilege to meet with you after that show. Thank you for all the great contributions you have made and here is to many more Happy Birthdays!!!

Just got a ticket to see him tonight at his 93rd B-Day show! I'm psyched. I guess I better get to my local GC to get a LP pickguard for him to sign! :RoCkIn

I saw him last night at the Iridium and got to wish him happy birthday, along with 150 other people. It was my first time. I hope to see him again. Next time I'll bring bring the family. Just hope the jokes aren't as off-color when my kids are sitting there in the audience. The man has a wicked sense of humor.

Here's some pix:

Les thows out one of his inimitable one-lines:

Les posing for a nice wholesome group shot. It's interesting what happens to your finger when you have arthritis!

Les getting down to business:

Les's stunning and gifted bass player. You should have heard their banter! I wish she'd talk to me like that! Guess he's still got "it" at 93.
