Apples vs. Oranges: RC booster or OCD?

I know this might seem like a strange comparison seeing as one is a clean boost and one is an overdrive, but hear me out!

I've been mulling over picking up an RC Booster for a while, I played one and I like it a lot, I'm just kind of waiting for the right deal to come along...I generally prefer to use my amp's drive as opposed to pedals (egnater TOL) but I'd like to have that option of having a bit "more" that the RC gives.

However, I was reading my local Craigslist today and there is an OCD in mint condition listed for $100, which seems like a pretty good deal to me! I've never played an OCD, but I hear good things. I know it can be used as more of a clean boost, how would it compare to the RC in that regard? Would I be able to get some use out of it just for a little "more" oomph, while still getting most of my gain from my amp? If so, it sounds like a steal, and who knows, maybe I'll like the drive on it enough to use it for that too!

Anyone?

The OCD is a great pedal and you should definitely check it out...I have never used it as a boost but it is built to be very responsive to your guitar's volume and your attack...so I wouldn't consider it in the same territory as the RC...it really adds good stuff to your tone all the way around

I use the RC as well...but as a solo boost...I like it for this function... to me my overall sound is kept intact and I can cut/add gain, bass and treble

Good luck!

Just got a OCD v4. Great pedal, but no clean with the gain at 0 with my 339 (classic 57 humbuckers) in both HP and LP mode.

Not what I was hoping to hear.

Another choice that I've come across is the catalinbread SCP...nice, simple booster that can be had for a similar price to the OCD. Choices, choices, choices.

It depends from the pickups, I can use it as a clean boost with my Telecaster with Tom Anderson TV1 and TV3, with humbuckers on my Patrick Eggle Berlin Pro it becomes dirtier but also very nice in character.

The RC boost is much better as strictly a clean boost with treble and bass controls.

The OCD (depending on version) isn't sparkly clean at low gain settings and has limited EQ ability, but it does clean up remarkably well with the guitar volume when used as an OD.

That said, $100 is a pretty good price and if you don't like it, you won't likely have trouble getting your money back if it doesn't work for you.

Like you said, apples vs oranges, but I like fruit salad!

Well, I just went for secret option #3 and bought a super chili picoso...apples vs. oranges vs. peppers, I guess. I like the RC but it is kinda pricey...I hope the SCP fulfills my needs so I don't have to go back and get an RC later!
