Gibson les paul question

I may be coming into a little bit of money and I figured it was the best time to get my dream guitar, Gibson les paul standard heritage cherry sunburst with the 59 headstock. Anyway I am left handed so I know it will probably be about 2500 dollars. But I have been reading alot of the quality control of Gibsons lately and I am kind of nervous about such a purchase because there are never any left handed gibsons in any store in my area to try out so I may have to order it. Has the quality of Gibsons dipped, or is it a hit or miss. I really don't want to order that big a purchase without trying it on a hit or miss. My second choice for now is the Dean Razorback Explosion. Would appreciate any info.

I've ordered Gibson's from MF and AMS, they have liberal return policies, if there is a problem with the guitar, they will replace it and you won't have to pay return shipping on an exchange.

My current number one and "dream guitar" is a white LP custom, I got it from AMS and I returned an LP standard and an R7 before getting the custom.... It was worth it. I've still never found another guitar that satisfies me like it does.

Been looking at LPs since 1970, every year some one is telling me that gibson's quality is crap for what ever reason, the gibsons are more expensive than most, and problems do occur, whether its gibson's fault or the stores, however they make the best gibson guitar, and the guitar is guaranteed for life, workmanship and materials, so if a mistake happens they will fix it, and if the factory missed something they usually try to make it right.

I have owned 4 gibsons, they were and are still great gutiars.

You should get a custom shop 58 reissue if you have the cash. The are plain top, but the custom shop quality is always good. There are some that are better than others but all are very good guitars.

Can't say I've seen too screwed up Gibsons outside requiring a setup and maybe messing with the nut. None perfect like my PRS, sure, but no flaws I'd identify as sound or playability damaging.

As everybody who looked forward to buying a Les Paul for a long time, you must make yourself aware of the different styles of weight relief that Gibson has going on, solid, swiss-chessed and different chambering styles, all in Les Pauls that appear solid.

I am not going to tell you which weight relief style you will like, but you need to be aware of it and playtest so that you get the guitar what you want for the money you spend.

As for deals, I second the recommendation for the R8. Along with the R7 the best deal out there.

I've had a few issues with frets on the budget Gibsons, but the more expensive ones have all been excellent.

I'd look at the Heritage 150s too for a Gibson style. If you don't care about the headstock, you'll get an arguably better guitar at a better price.

Been a lefty forever. Owned 100's of guitars. A few words on Gibson Lefty LPs:
GC almost never has a std. they just mostly have wine red studios.
Southpaw is a huge ripoff on Gibsons, everything is over list price. He has more NOS than anybody and that's why.
QC on lefties has been excellent for a really long time.

My last LP (2008 Std.) came from MF. Because I had a 20% off coupon.
They beat everyones price when you added the free shipping and no tax.

I enthusiastically second the 58 Plaintop suggestion / High Quality and Vintage Accuracy - I've just taken the plunge on a 2008 Faded Tobacco Sunburst Historic Les Paul and it's been a really good decision. I've been around long enough to have seen, played and owned some fine 50's Les Pauls and ES's and to my ears and eyes this 2008 Plaintop Historic does it.

I did try a total of five "58's" before I found 'The One', and true they are all RH. Certainly finding a convienient selection of LH guitars is a task, but there is cause to say that although they were all nice, it pays off to try out as many as you can first.

I came into some expendable money last year and got 3 2007 LP's; a Standard, Classic Antique and Studio. I bought all of them from reputable dealers, played many others and didn't see any workmanship issues with ANY of them. I see all these threads bashing QC at Gibson and think "I can NOT be that lucky."
