Replacing Lace Sensors - do you need new pots?

equipped with Lace Golds. I replaced them with CS 54s which sound good but almost too clear.

I didn't know enough about the importance of pots when I had a tech replace the pickups but I'm wondering if Lace Sensors used higher value pots (i.e. more than 250K) and if so, whether I should use a 250K tone / volume pot with the CS54s?

Does anyone know?

To the best of my knowledge, Lace Sensors use a 250k pot typically. (you can look at the pot, it's stamped on there) Is your guitar equipped with the stacked 250/1meg tone pot? My strat plus had this, which worked well for the laces, but I could see how it could be too much for regular singles if turned up all the way. If not, maybe you need to experiment with some cap values to take the edge off.

On the other hand, you new pickups may be just clearer than the laces.

before i worked at lace music there was a time the sons of Don Lace sr. / jeff & don lace was telling too many people to use 500ks - so check it out - with a ohm meter..

use 250's even with lace golds! much better! - the golds and silvers were originally designed with lace +fender and always loaded up with 250ks - especially if the guitars from fender -- never 500ks

anyways - what your hearing is true top end now - now with your new single coils - the old laces are what they themselfs titled "modern" and that simply means the top end is _rolled off_ in the higher register Freqs & peaks -more rounded off - then any original stock single coils.
