Warren Haynes amp setttings,tone...

I was just wondering what settings does he use on his Soldano? On my modded Marshall i came pretty close to his sound, but it just isn't fat sounding...it's like too much treble, but if i cut it down then it starts to be kinda muddy...and i know that tone is in his hands but...anyway thanks

His "tone" is also at blistering volumes. Part of what is necessary for a SLO giving it up is having the master at least at 1:00.
I had one and I LOVED the tone. Ass kicker of an amp.

IIRC, he tends to run the gain fairly low on his amp (like 3 to 4). Bewteen that and the high volume, as emee said, that's how he does it. FWIW, I think my Shiva does a fairly convincing Warren Haynes at much lower volume.

I used to own a Soldano SLO, it's a unique sounding amp in my opinion. Some say it's Marshally sounding, but I find it's alot fatter and tonally different in the mids. I used to use JJ 6L6's, that's what Warren uses in his SLO's. I had the Haynes and depth mods too.

Warren's settings on his SLO are:

Normal: 6
Overdrive: 3-4
Bass: 6
Mids: 5
Treble: 5-6
Master Normal: 6
Master Overdrive: 6
Presence: 6

I got these settings off of the Deepest End DVD.

Mike

Last night, Gov't Mule played here. My band's FOH soundman was with Gov't Mule, running monitors, for roughly Nine years, so we were treated to the whole VIP thing. Was awesome!!!!!

Couple of things worth noting: Warren actually isn't all that loud on stage. In talking with him, I learned his Soldano is modded so that it has better low end response at lower preamp AND output volume. He said his Diaz is modded too, though I didn't catch what all was modded there. According to him, he uses the Diaz into the Tone Tubby cab for a more "Fendery" kind of sound, the Soldano into the Marshall cab is for the more, well, "Marshally" stuff. Makes sense to me. But standing in front of his rig, with the cabs right at face level to me, it wasn't loud at all. I actually expected a LOT more volume....

To me, his rig sounds it's best when he's using one of his Les Pauls. When he plays a Firebird, for example, to me it sounds to 'grainy'. When the Les Paul comes in, it's smooth and crunchy. Awesome.

Man nice post mate...must have been nice being at the soundcheck etc....I have to admit your DSL voodoo modded DSL100 tones are fantastic...and your band has that Gov't mule vibe..but abit more rockier...which is good for me......loved your wall of doom studio rig..great Flight case that....your studio tones are the best Marshall tones for awhile I've heard online...love that Marshall crunch...EL34 power amp saturating...lovely stuff...

http://www.myspace.com/superswampheroes best Marshall tones I've heard on this gear forum by far.

Cheers

Martin
