Tele Twang Pups

This is my first post and I hope I get some good feedback from it. I am going to be building a tele soon and i need some of you tone hounds to recommend some smokin' pickups. I am looking for a really vintage tele tone with a lot of twang. Going with light swamp ash body and 1 piece maple neck. Suggestions?

I'm over here in my unit, isolated and alone, eating my terrible tasting food, and I have to look over at that. That looks like the most fun I've ever seen in my entire life, and it's B.S. - excuse my language. I'm just saying that I wash and dry; I'm like a single mother. Look, we all know home-ec is a joke - no offense - it's just that everyone takes this class to get an A, and it's bull$h!t - and I'm sorry. I'm not putting down your profession, but it's just the way I feel.

as long as you go with true rod-magnet single coils with the baseplate under the bridge pickup, and as long as that pickup is loaded into a ferrous-steel bridge, you will have true tele twang.

i like fralins and 3 brass saddles.

I use Vintage Vibe pups and I've gotten some pretty good results from it. Lots of twang in the bridge

I've been hearing a lot about the Fred Stuart pups, but I can't seem to find em anywhere online to do some research. Anyone got a lil more info on these? I was also thinking about a pro cut brass nut on this tele I'll be building. Too twangy? Opinions?

Brass nut is not necessary for twang.

Check at The Telecaster Discussion Page Reissue... www.tdpri.com. Not quite as much activity as here, but there's plenty, and it's almost all Telecaster. I recommend Don Mare pickups, and there are lots of posts about them both here and there. There is a link to an audio sample of the Fred Stuart pickups there somewhere.

Lindy Fralins work for me, but there are a lot of good options.

Hey Thug -

Welcome to TGP. Try using the 'Search' function - search on "Telecaster Pickups" - there's a ton of info.

I use Don Mare Tele pickups, and Fralin and Seymour Antiquity too - all are great. I love the Fred Stuart Blackguard pickups too.

Lower output pickups in general are twangier. If twang is what you're after, avoid the brass nut - use bone, IMHO.

Good Luck, Dana O.
