Most have already stated most of my favourites but here are few guitarists, and songs which are characteristic of their sound, whose tones I really like.

James Wilsey-Chris Isaak-Wicked Game
Albert King-Ill play the blues for you
Chris Rea-Road to hell
Mike Oldfield-Moonlight Shadow
Robbie Blunt-Robert Plant-Big log
Phil Manzanera-Roxy Music-my only love

I guess it's Jonny Greenwood, but that was after I realized that the great tone I was getting sounded like his, so in a way it's mine. =/

The top three
1. Buck Dharma on B.O.C.s' Spectres album. I have always wanted that tone so bad, but in a combo amp. Any suggestions?
2. Alex Lifeson
3. Perry/Whitford on the early Aerosmith albums. Rocks just oozed with that atmospheric dark tone.
