But in any event, every guitar player should have both. And one of everything else too.

I find the term "classic rock" simply troubling. It's so non-descript.

IMO Tele's have a much more solid, meaty sound, especially on the bridge pickup.
Strat's CAN sound plinky, nasely, out-of-phase, wimpy, which I don't associate with rocking. The key work is here is 'can'... I think because of the multiple pickup options, people have a tendency to over-use and abuse the between pickup positions which cause most of these sounds.
With both guitars on the bridge pickup and a good amp, they can sound pretty similar, therefore rock about the same.
But I think the metal plate around the bridge pickup effects frequency response of the pickup in a way that IMO is more aligned with what I consideredto be the sound of rock. I think the body thickness and shape of the tele generally delivers a little more punch as well.

Strats are my least favorite sounding guitars for the over use of the in- between pickup positions. I think there is nothing worse sounding than a quacky semi-out of phase sounding guitar. Just my opinion though.

Early Jimmy Page material is one. Eric Clapton used a Tele with Blind Faith.

How did I miss this ? It's an absolutely brilliant statement and one worthy of its own topic.

When did "classic rock" begin ? When did it end ? Who is allowed to be catogorized as being part of it ?

As "rock" ages, will some of the modern rock become "classic rock" ?

Rock came from blues and blues came from Africa so, is African Blues "classic blues" or "oldies blues" ?

Arghhh !

Gotta agree with the Gas-man -
Jeff Beck used a Telecaster/Esquire on some of the early Yardbirds stuff... but later went on to a LP Standard - the same with Clapton... the same with Page... the same with Bloomfield...

When I think of classic rock I think Tele over Strat but I am probably wrong. I think Les Paul more than anything.
