G&L ASAT Classic Bluesboy??

I currently play a LP studio and ES-137 (give me the mix between LP and Gibson hallow). I'm not in love with my LP anymore so I'm looking for a swap. I was at a store today and came across the G&L ASAT Classic Bluesboy as I was checking out Tele's. I'd love to be able to get fender bolt-on tones but still keep the ballsy LP tones for rock. I didn't have time to plug the G&L in but I played it dry for a minute and liked the feel. I play mostly rock/alt rock and some blues.

Would this be a good fit for me? If not, do you have another recommendation? Thanks!

Based on your description, I'd say that's an excellent choice for you...

I'm somewhat biased, though - I love those guitars

Be aware, there's solid & semi-hollow variations, with and without F-hole, and they feel a little different...probably best to hunt down a good dealer and try a few...

I love them also, but I don't see it getting anything like what you get from an LP. It has it's own vibe. Better plug it in and hear for yourself. My fav G&L model though.

It's oklay. The neck pickup isn't potted and on the one I had, the bridge pickup squealed badly. I replaced it with a Duncan SC sized humbucker, which helped. For about the same money, I like the American Deluxe Tele better.

Play a good number of them; some (all the older ones) have a Seymour Duncan Seth Lover neck pup; the newer ones may or may not.

As stated, there's a hollow version, with or without an F hole. Try all of them with a variety of amp combos. Nice guitars, beautifully made.

Great guitars. Play a few if you can. Good Luck!

Bluesboys are great guitars. They were originally a special order by Buffalo Brothers but turned out to be so popular that G&L put them into regular production.

Potting the humbucker will give it a smoother tone although most folks I know who own Bluesboys seem happy enough with the pickup as is. If I recall, the newer ones do not have the Seth Lover pickup but one made by G&L. Ya might check with the Guitars by Leo Forum.

The bridge pickup, however, is another thing. The traditional Tele size MFD bridge pickup can squeal like a banshee at higher volumes although I have run across some that just do not do it.

It is xcommon around here for folks to roll both the bridge and bridge pup on their Bluesboys putting in a Barden or Callaham bridge and often a Duncan Jerry Donahue pickup.

It is really too bad in a way cuz I like the tone of the MFD pickup.

BTW, you might give the G&L Custom a whirl which has the large "candy bar" MFD in the neck and the Classic bridge pickup.
