VS Route 66
Just snagged one of these. Total impulse buy. Sounded good in the store. Have a gig tonight, so I'll put it right to the test.
Now I have 2 compressors (mini-bi comp and this one) and 5 dirt boxes (DGTM, Rat w/JHS mod, Small Fry and TS9dx). Jeez, that's a lot of stuff, I guess. Any love for the Route 66? |

I have an original version of the Route 66. The one before they added the extra switch. I've had it about six years and it's been bullet proof. I was playing a college party with it once (before I had a pedalboard) and a drunk guy accidentally kicked it out an open door and into a snow bank. I ran outside, grabbed it and plugged it back in and it fired right back up. It has developed a bit of rust on the case and the 9v jack stopped working but it's a decent pedal for the money.

i've got one and i love it just for the compressor, i leave it on all the time to push my amp AFTER all my dirt pedals. I don't really use the OD side, i've grown away from the TS types.

I have the original one..
Not that great if you ask me. The OD is very muddy and a little "Line 6 Spider Amp III" sounding. The compressor isnt bad, but not great either. It's not that special if you ask me, i got it for less than 100 so yeah. I am planning to move on with a keeley comp though Its a great pedal for the price though, dont get me wrong |

Have been using an original Rt 66 for a number of years and like the compressor as far as Ross type comps go. The tone knob on the comp side is really useful. I had Keeley mod the OD side right after I got it because I thought the bass was a bit boomy. The mods also gave it a bit more clarity and gain but I thought it was a pretty good pedal right out of the box. Seems fairly bullet proof considering all the years I've had it.

I have an original on the way from the 'bay. Some people like the TS on the original versions over the newer versions. It's all a matter of taste I guess...

I like the compressor a lot. The drive side was redundant with my FDII.

I have wondered about this pedal for some time now. I don't think I would get the Route 66, but the Comp 66 instead since I don't have a compressor yet. Mr. Barber's pedals aren't so easy to get a hold of here in Winnipeg
.So far I have heard good things about their compressor, but there just isn't enough demos/samples out there for me to pull the trigger. I own two Visual Sound pedals (H2O and J&H) and I would say they are very good quality pedals, built like tanks.

I'm a R66 owner and it's a great pedal for the price. The drive side is another TS take so the sound isn't anything out of the ordinary. It still sounds great - just nothing like a Tim or Klon. The comp side is amazing IMO. Very transparent and subtle - especially if you leave the tone control off. The only thing I don't like about this pedal is the shape and size of the enclosure...otherwise it's a good pedal for the price.

Call me crazy...
but, I am loving this pedal through a Blues Jr. and with a VooDoo Lab chorus.
Have used it w/other amps that at rehearsals and jams and works good from one to the next. |
