Anyone have experience gigging a fender Supersonic?

I have a new supersonic on the way and I was wondering if they are capable of good sounds (clean and dirty) at low volumes. I have a gig in three weeks and the club always mics everything and runs it through the house PA.

Not much chance of cranking up the tubes and getting them running hot. Will this be a problem?

one of my favourite high gain amps, with some of the most sparkling cleans. at both hish and low volumes. you should be fine. let's get some feedback after the gig and let us know how it goes

I'm over here in my unit, isolated and alone, eating my terrible tasting food, and I have to look over at that. That looks like the most fun I've ever seen in my entire life, and it's B.S. - excuse my language. I'm just saying that I wash and dry; I'm like a single mother. Look, we all know home-ec is a joke - no offense - it's just that everyone takes this class to get an A, and it's bull$h!t - and I'm sorry. I'm not putting down your profession, but it's just the way I feel.

Waiting for this thing is killing me. I went to GC to buy it and they did not have any in stock. They found one, new in the box at a store over two hundred miles away. They are shipping it to my doorstep. That was Thursday. I expect this thing either tomorrow or Wednesday. My band is heading into the studio tomorrow to record our 6 song CD. Ironically the studio that we chose happens to have a supersonic in house for me to use in case my SS does not arrive. The recording engineer said that the SS records beautifully for both clean and dirty stuff. We have a gig in 3 weeks and we are giving out free copies of our new disc. I will be posting new songs using the SS on our My Space page when complete.

I've seen them used 4 times this summer in large outdoor venues, where of course they're miked, but they absolutely scream and have a ton of headroom in the clean mode.

I gig with mine a lot. It's a great amp. Takes pedals really well for lower volumes. I love it.

Are all attenuators expensive like the THD Hot Plate? ($300)

I heard a lot about these amps & was really excited to get one. Went over to guitar center.. 1st one I plugged in hummed more than any tube amp I had ever heard.. ON THE CLEAN CHANNEL!... the hum was almost as loud as the regular sound coming from the amp.

So I plugged into the other one... it had a dead channel.

So I went home & started reading posts on here & reviews & found others had problems with these amps. So I ended up passing & getting something else.

The idea of the supersonic really got me.. fender cleans.. and rock overdrives... but I'm kinda scared of the amp now

The drive channel does okay at lower volumes, but the clean channel really needs to be opened up to sound its best. I always ran an attenuator with mine.

I have read a lot about early versions of this amp having bias issues from the factory but Fender has apparently worked through these issues and the Supersonics from about 2007 and on have the bugs worked out. To test this theory I had played 4 different SS before taking the plunge to buy one. All 4 that I played were great. The only noise I encountered came from the burn channel when both gain knobs were turned all the way up and the volume was turned up. IMO this is fairly normal from most tube amps with a lot of gain. If you read most reviews of this amp over the past 6 months to a year they have mostly been positive. You might want to take another look at the SS

Hey GCDEF....you and I seem to have similar tastes in amplifiers. If I recall you also have a Traynor YCS50? Correct? I had one of those also

I had one when they first came out, a head. Really like the sound of it, BUT it did not take pedals well IMHO. Maybe they have improved that ?? Delays and mods sounded cool in the loop....but OD's in front sounded harsh ( hard to explain - but they felt and sounded different from every other amp I had played before or subsequently )

Has any one else experienced weird interaction with od's and distortions into a supersonic ??

I dug the amp's core sound for sure. Maybe I should try another one at some point...

Fender cleans and good overdrive. Hmmm. Sound like a Mesa Boogie?
