Funny, I just picked this up new in a $5.99 bin about a month ago. Once I listened to it I could not believe that no one had bought it. Great album. I love III's dark touch, and Hiland's playing very tasty!

Rod Jazen plays with Dierks Bentley.

Now THERE is a polar opposite of ol' Hank! At least on the surface. I'm sure they both have at least one hobby in common.

And Donnie Herron is with BR549. Good to see his name on there.

Joe Buck scares me.

I've been bitten recently by the Hank III bug, I love it. "Straight To Hell" is killer. I know a few guys here in Nashville that have worked for him and they say he's really laid back and polite, kinda the opposite of what you'd expect. A great view into his twisted musical mind is "The Official Bootlegs" (3 volumes), if you can find it.

Rod Janzen is a good friend of mine, and while not taking anything away Redd and Johnny, if you can ever catch Rod gigging around town in local beer joints, he'll kill you with versatility- Joe Pass and Wes on a western swing tune, killer rock soloing on another and can play a ballad or a old country standard authentically, all with great tone to boot.

I was on a getaway with the girlfriend a few weeks ago in the Ozarks and we stopped in this little local favorite hippy restaurant. There was this odd, yet really catchy stuff playing. The players were obviously top notch. Vocals were a bit quirky, but great and sometimes hilarious lyrics. I couldn't place it for the life of me and thought it might be some local group I'd never heard of. I asked the waitress and it was Hank III "Straight To Hell". I've been meaning to pick it up ever since. Good stuff! :AOK:AOK

You said it about Rod.

I was at Roberts a few years back and saw him playing with whomever and thought "Damn, that guy is GOOD".

Then a few months later I see him on TV with Dierks Bentley.

Dude paid his dues, fo sho.

Excellent harmony singer too.

I saw him play bass for Super Joint Ritual a few years ago. Kinda different from his solo work obviously.

It was at my local Hastings. Of course they've been throwing all kinds of little treasures in the bin. I don't know if it's a company-wide thing or if the management here is just smokin' the dope, lol....
