I've been in awe of Edge's innate musicality since I first heard the opening riff of "Sunday Bloody Sunday". I had the opportunity to see U2 on the Joshua Tree tour and they were FANTASTIC!. He is one of a kind. BTW, if Bono wants to spend his time pleading the case of the poor, then more power to him. It's a far sight better than acting like Amy Winehouse or any of a vast number of other spoiled and poisonous celebrities.

Does he have an ego? Ofcourse, or he wouldn't have become the frontman in a rockband, and I think it's healthy to mock his persona; I don't think he takes that persona too serious himself. Some friends of mine once met him on some beach in Flanders, I think around the time of New Years' Day, when he was just having a lot of beers, and they hung out with him a bit, and said he was a very fun and humble guy. As for using a lot of delay : Steve Hillage was doing it in a similar way in the early 70's, but more on single notes. The Edge really made it something of his own. I've never been crazy about U2, but I do think they are a tight and original band. I've always been most impressed by the rhythmsection btw Jan

Hendrix, EVH, The Edge. All the same caliber. Musical, influential and timeless.

Edge = cool. He plays two notes, no matter the tone, and you know it's him. I love every single simple note he plays.
Easy to play his stuff, impossible to sound just like him.

He can turn on the "rock star" when he's on stage, or trying to get people's attention. But then, he IS a rock star - very few have the ability to connect on a personal level w/a stadium full of people...

I did "Streets" again on Sunday. The organ intro is still so moving, and I had a blast doing the dual delay thing. I ended up pairing a long delay with the DL-4 to a dotted 8 tempo on a DD-5. It sounded pretty doggone good. I kinda wish I'd played a strat rather than a tele, though.

Late to the thread but count me in. It's funny, I turned my nose up to U2 when I was in high school. Joshua Tree was the big thing and I used to think U2 was soft, I was in a different musical state then. Achtung Baby hit when I was in college, I became intrigued and started liking them. Then I smartened up and got my hands on the "old school" stuff if you will, October, Boy, War, Live under Blood Red Sky and Unforgettable Fire and I was like, this kicks ass, the Edge kicks ass, what the hell was I thinking??? I did the same with REM.

I just saw U2 @ Soldier Field on the first night of the North American tour. We were down on the floor of the stadium, and I ended up on Edge's side of the stage (naturally) about 50 feet or so away. It was a real treat to watch him play. The guy's tone is top notch, and he's a superb musician - very tasteful, and very precise. I'm a fan.
