74 Strat with Kinman pickups (soon to be changed for Fralin Vintage Hots). Plugged in direct to Apogee Duet. Software is Overloud's TH1 (digging that pig).

Can't wait to try the Fralin's. I've disliked the Kinman's for quite a long time but had loved the noiseless aspect so stuck with them for a while.

I'll post a clip with the same settings when I install the Fralin's. Should have better dynamics and punch.

Funny, this gear stuff. That is a great example of a famtastic Strat neck pickup tone and it's done via a noiseless pickup. I think we sweat the gear too much. It's the overall mojo of the instrument(s) in the hands of a great player that speel the difference.

Yup, the gear obsession is ridiculous but how do you stop it? I do realize the people listening can't tell the difference between a noiseless Kinman or a Fralin/Lollar/Fender etc...

This week I purchased a 76 Vibrolux and a Fralin loaded pickguard. I had to have the Vibrolux because it sounded so good. I went in the store the next day and they had a used Prosonic that I plugged into. I thought that sounded sooooo good too and thought hmmmm... maybe I have to have this too (at some point, can't afford it right now).

Anyway, the point is whatever I pick up and try out I want to buy it even though I realize I sound pretty much the same on all the different equipment and also that no one would ever know the difference!!!

But again, how do you stop it. I listened to this clip again this morning and thought, crap this does sound pretty decent, maybe I should have saved the money on the Fralins? And maybe I should have saved the money on the Vibrolux etc...

Thanks for the compliments.

I hear you. I've stopped recently with this ridiculous quest. We all sound essentially like "us" when we play, no matter what we use. Minute differences, yes, huge differnce, no. The amount of money I have spent in 30 years on one piece of gear or another, is not something to sneeze at.

I now use one Warmoth Strat, loaded with an old set of Voodoo pickups from the mid-1990's I had laying around. They sound good in this strat. i plug into a BF'd 1978 Deluxe Reverb with a JBL speaker in it. I then run another 1x12 cab with another JBL in it. That's it. It sounds great and can cover alot of different styles.

Anyway, you sound great and have a good touch on a Strat. Salute!

Holy crap, I just listened to your "Two Rocks From The Sun" on My Space. Lead playing is funky as hell, amazing sense of timing and groove. My favorite guy from years past that had that type of thing down was Alan Murphy.

Nice.
