Blackbox Inferno?
Just picked up a Blackbox Inferno on Ebay.
Anybody have an opinion on this guy? I've yet to find a clip. |

I heard one at the Austin pedalfest a while back, and was very impressed. We auditioned a bunch of different fuzzes (Analogman NKT, Mista Fuzz, Crucible, my Crest Fuzz Face, another member's original 60s FF, another member's homemade FF-style, and the Inferno) through a Marshall and it was definitely one of the standouts. Sounded pretty huge to my ears. Did you buy the one that was up for $80? Quite a deal-- I almost went for it, but really need an AC tap.

I had a few sound files, but had to get them from the designer himself. The distributor (http://www.oohlalamanufacturing.com) didn't have anything to offer, even after phone calls and emails.
The sound files sounded great, but didn't show off much of the fuzz side of things, more of the overdrive possibilities. The deal breaker for me was that there weren't tone controls. I'd be VERY curious as to what you think of it.

I have an older one - overall, it's a great pedal that I use often.
The good: Very warm and OD-ish Good at low gain fuzz (not on/off like some fuzzes) Can get some interesting compressed "dirty clean" tones with the gain down and compression up. The Bad: Mine has a loud background hiss, may be a funky/out of spec transistor? I should look into this… No tone control. It's a dark, bassy fuzz which is great for a Tele into a Fender amp, but less great for a darker rig. |

That's one of my favorite fuzz pedals. I have an older one too and I don't think it particularly needs a tone control. The same rules apply to it as with many fuzz pedals. Put it 1st in the chain so it sees a high impedance.

Just got it. So far, so good. It has a SHYTELOAD of volume. If I had to describe its sound, it would be like a 2 transistor Tonebender, but with 1 germanium and 1 silicon, and with a transistor boost circuit in front.
