I couldn't agree more about his skills as a guitarist, I'm questioning what he's doing with them that's all. For me his playing style when playing next to Collins, King etc etc live is painfully wrong. There is no blend at all, it's just an avalanche of hard rock licks against a back wall of blues support. If he wants to play with these cats go for it but don't sell it as "the" blues.

If people are happy with what he currently does power to them. (It goes without saying they're entitled to it)

From what I and many others remember him as has us at a loss. Again maybe????? he still "needs" some sort of income and this is the factor. Obviously I'm guessing.

If you look at his career to date he's almost been flogging his version of the blues longer than any other genre he's played before. With that said maybe it's time for a shift again?? I sincerely hope so.

FWIW, I'm in **total agreement** with everything MwG posted. I've loved Gary's playing since Corridors Of Power. The blues albums peaked with Blues For Greeny, and anything after that was just rehashing his same old licks, not to mention terrible songwriting. Again, I love Gary's playing, but the points made about various versions of Parisienne Walkways (c'mon Gary, find a new chord progression) and about the hard rock licks played with Albert Collins and Albert King (who got "blown away" is subjective) are valid.

I can't hold a candle to Gary and would never claim to. He's still one of my favorites.

New Gary Blues?

I quite like the New gary moore album. There's a few songs that I don't enjoy (mostly for his over singing the Blues). But his guitar playing smokes on every tune. There's some great slow blues at the end. He changes his tone alot throughout the album as well.
I thought SCARS was a better album...but I find something to enjoy in them all. (except that one with the drum machines and dance tracks he put out?).

There's still tons of magic in Gary's Blues. If he could get together with the right producer he could make a legendary recording.

I heard his new album last week and it left me kind of flat. Just an unremarkable offerring in my opinion.

My favorite GM is "Back to the Blues". Great stuff if you like mid sixties cream/ english blues/rock. I do not care for any of his trad attempts (including still got the blues) and I don't really care for his voice in a blues setting, but he rocks like he means it on "Back to the Blues" and his tone is to die for on that album...ANd I LOVE his "SHapes of Things" from way back.

So I'll check out the new one.

Gary's a freakin' amazing and versatile player.
That said, I prefer to hear him in hard rock and rock/jazz settings (and his sideman work is gret) - this is an aggressive, intense, loud guitarist (though he can be very operatic/lyrical).
