Please help with delay/echo

I know delays have been covered here extensively but I have a specific issue I'm dealing with...

I've noticed that my Carl Martin DeLayla XL changes the tone when engaged. When I switch on the delay, it seams like there are more highs and the volume has an apparent very tiny boost. So if I set everything up with the desired tone, as soon as I need delay, it throws everything off.

Is this a known attribute of this pedal - or do I have a defective one? Either way, what natural sounding analog delay has true bypass (I don't use a lot of pedals or very long cables) and will preserve the original tone when the delay is activated?

Thanks in advance
Tom

Wampler Analog Echo...100% true bypass. Don't think you will find an analog delay that completely preserves your original tone, as the repeats will have varying degrees of warm decay. I can tell you that the Wampler pedal doesn't affect the tone of the initial attack before the repeats start. I think it sounds better than any other analog pedal I've tried, and it has a tone control so you can make the repeats brighter or darker. Excellent buy IMO.

Thanks. I have a DD-3 that has those digital, crisp repeats. I use that one primarily for infinite, held repeats or when I want a more modern, crisper delay. I know that the replication of analog delay means that the repeats will be altered tone-wise. What I'm referring to is the initial attack. I want the initial attack to be the same tone as when the delay is off.

I'm not a big fan of any of the analog delays. Have you tried the timefactor or timeline? They're both fantastic. I've heard good things about the nova too but have not tried their delay. I do like the nova reverb.

Hey JAZ! No, haven't tried any of those yet. I'm going to give Wampler's Analog Echo a run and see what happens. I like the fact that you can sweep the tone of the repeats. We'll see...

If I can get my hands on a timefactor I'll check that out too.

Well, I confirmed with Mr. Wampler himself that he was familiar with my problem and that, yes, the Analog Echo would preserve the tone when you hit the switch. The only down side, he admitted, was the lack of a tap tempo. But I think I could get by without it most of the time.

So I placed my order today. I'll report back when I've had a chance to check it out!

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it
