Best Rapper Alive?
http://new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/hip...ls-slim-shady/
Best Rapper Alive? Vibe mag contest says Eminem. I tend to to agree...Eminem is my favorite. I'll admit...other than him I'm more of a 80's/90's rap fan versus what's been out since 2000 +. I'd like to say Eazy E however he isn't alive ![]() To the rap haters...stay out. |

I thought the only good rappers were dead rappers.

I'd say Black Thought from the Roots is my favorite of the moment. They make KILLER records, too. Amazing that a live band can sound like that, & produce such a variety of sounds.

Chuck D, although he's better with Flavor Flav. And I hate saying that because Flav is an ass-grabbing media whore.

how are you defining "best?"
message? beats? flow? originality? i have a 3-way tie between KRS-1, Del the funkee homosapien(deltron, etc), and mos def. but, at the same time (and as much as i don't want to admit), jay-z is probably tops. |

+1 on KRS-One. My favorite to this day, though, is still Rakim...it doesn't get much better than "Microphone Fiend" or "Follow the Leader." The way he phrases his lines always reminds me of Charlie Parker, very smooth, melodic, and imaginative...I love the minimal backing tracks, too.
I like Chuck D a lot, too. In high school I bought Fear of a Black Planet and the Sex Pistols' Never Mind the Bollocks on cassette on the same day and it was the perfect combination! Here are three of my favorites from Eric B & Rakim: "Microphone Fiend" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Irsh2mXJ-E "I Know You Got Soul" (listen to it on headphones to hear the two different drum tracks to the left and the right of the stereo picture) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFrWjHcmBRU "Know the Ledge" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNBjKWV65Qc |
