reasons behind the GAS

I wonder why with so many of us that have a room full of great gear, still dream of getting other gear.

Is it from a sense of lack or embracing the abundance?

I think it comes from truly searching for that one "great" guitar and the fact that people who have a lot of gear can usually afford to keep a lot of what they buy instead having to sell to get the next must have tone machine.

Those that can afford to embrace the abundance do so.
As far as lacking or "want", maybe it's a lack of talent that causes over-compensation through "GAS"? idk.

Well, I see it more like you need a wrench, hammer, screwdriver (phillips and flathead), allen wrenches....different tools for the same job.

psh, you're all way off.

I have a boring life with no substance.

I buy something expensive and awesome, it makes me feel good for a week or so. Then I feel empty again. So, I buy something else.

It never ends until I stumble upon hard financial times, or a wife.

Sometimes it's the thrill of the chase. Many times I sell a guitar to buy a new one, only to wish I never sold the original one in the first place.

It's more fun to buy new toys than to play with the ones that you already have.

P.S. Guitarslinger21....you are 100% correct!

I agree with all the above, but for me it's also a great hobby. As a lefty I truly enjoy the thrill of the chase. Finding , and more importantly winning auctions all over the world, and possessing these guitars. For however long or short a time. There is no final destination, no one perfect guitar. Lot's of keepers, and that changes too. It's very much like chasing women. But in some ways less expensive and sometimes more satisfying. Case in point : I was dating a girl who knew nothing about guitars. She once remarked "Gee if you sold one of these Gibsons we could take a nice trip someplace for the holidays " And I remember thinking, if I got rid of her before the holidays I could get that new R8 that Saul just got in.....Man I still like this R8. The girl ? teh, there will be others. There always are.

Easily bored and have tonal A.D.D.?

What sounds really good today, I will get used to hearing. When I get used to it, my brain says it must be bad, because it no longer inspires me.
