GOTOH: Vintage Kluson Style Locking Tuners for LP and SG.

http://www.ezramusicshop.com/pd-sd90mg.cfm

Did anyone tried this?

I´m considering a locking tuner to my 07´ Les Paul Standard.

I found this online. Seems interesting because it supposes to fit without any drills or modification.

How is overall quality?
I would like to know how exactly it works?
It uses some kind of automatic mechanism to lock the string while you restring right?
So if I use Drop D (or Drop E: Meyer´s Neon) will the string unlock?

I have the 6 inline set on My 60's Strat. They can be a small bit of a hassle to restring but are great for a retrofit. Might want to check out The Kluson branded version from Tonepros first.

The Kluson brand ones are not as good as the Gotohs, not even close.

I have replaced the standard tuners on my Tokai Love Rock with the Gotoh ones. Best upgrade (besides the pups)...

Please, could you explain how does it works?

If the original tuners have threaded bushings you will need press in conversion bushings. They are available from Stew Mac.

You can use that as a reference for sure.

ALL and every style of Gotoh locking tuners have the same "magnum lock" mechanism. They all lock/clam the strings down exactly the same way.

What about my other question: If I drop D or A or C, the string would still locked?

I don't know why, but I've been playing for about 35 years and have never needed or felt the need for locking tuners....I very rarely have any tuning problems and if I do I don't believe the tuners themselves have been the problem.

Once Locked you have to completely detune to slack to unlock so no problem with alternative tunings.
