Ryan Adams & the Cardinals: Cardinology (Releases Today)

Just a friendly TGP FYI - if you are into Indie rock and great songwriting this album is hitting the shelves today ...Ryan Adams never releases a dud but this one got pretty good reviews.

Whatever happened to that box set that was supposed to come out in '08?

I loved what one reviewer said, 'He feels that once a song is written it must be recorded and once recorded it must be released'.

I saw him live a lot in his early days, but eventually got kinda bored with him.

Still, I'll probably check this one out....eventually.

Itīs a really good record, and itīs his first this year. Lots of short songs(2min), so itīs good for those of us with short attention spans.

I listened to it all day yesterday (released early on Rhapsody) and its great. I still like the Whiskeytown stuff better than anything he's done solo but its still good.

it's funny how everyone in their 30s says the Whiskeytown stuff is the best and younger folks love the newer stuff.
My favorite Ryan Adams is Cold Roses, Jacksonville City Nights and Heartbreaker.

Easy Tiger and this new one Cardinology are good albums for sure but just don't hit me like those other albums.

Personally, I love the Whiskeytown stuff but I'm also a fan of Cold Roses and both Love Is Hell records.
I reached those conclusions based on personal experience with people I know. I could be wrong, and would be interested in seeing if my theory holds true with the folks on here.

I like whiskeytown stuff, I like the new stuff just the same personally. Since linking up with Lost Highway Records his stuff is just so well recorded/produced.

What I liked about RA for a while was how every album was a slightly different representation of his style capabilities. You could listen to an acoustic album, then a rock album, then a country album, then a Jam Band album. Each record had a different feel and puts you in a different place listening - I am eager to pick up this new record.

P.S. - I turn 30 tomorrow so I backup the above theory by placing myself favoring neither Whiskeytown / Solo Ryan / or with Cardinals - I dig it all.

Careful there, sonny . I'm a withered, bitter 40-something who likes the solo stuff better than Whiskeytown...'specially Cold Roses and Heartbreaker.

I'm a withered, bitter, and bald 45 year old, and I slightly favor his solo stuff!

It's become a hipster cliche to say the Whiskeytown stuff is better.

Even if it is true, it's de rigeur to say in indie/alt country circles.

I like his solo stuff a lot, including Stars Go Blue, which McGraw covered EXACTLY like the original, key, production, everything.

Must be a nice little check to get every month.

i like strangers almanac & pnuemonia more than any of his solo records, but i love almost everything he's done. i've listened to whiskeytown since strangers came out in 97. i have most of his unreleased stuff as well and tons of live shows. i'm liking cardinology, but love is hell will probably always be my favorite ryan solo album.
