Tell me about Sewell Amps....

I haven't heard a single amp yet but hear rumblings from some of you guys. I saw a Texaverb (??) recently which looked like a 6L6 equipped combo which I assumed was in the 40 watt range. What do these sound like and in particular the Texaverb??

I have a 100 watt Texaplex, good lawd! It is an articulate, gainey, thick sounding amp. It's my main lead amp now.

I have the last two Sewell amps coming to me in a couple of weeks. A store was owed two amps so I bought them both. One is a 50 watt Texaverb head and the other is a 50 watt Texaplex. I'll post reviews of them when they come in.

Looks like Doug will be very famous once the PRS versions come out. They are stellar amps with a cool boost feature and great master.

Dewey, I think you would really dig the Texaplex! Bramhall tones in spades.

Doug's Blistertone is the best sounding amp i've ever heard... sold one today to guy who came into our shop. only amp that i was actually sad to sell. (except for some solid state crates, but thats for a different reason).

I've long wanted to get my hands on one of those Texaverb combos. Waited a little too long I guess. So I console myself with the Wampus Cat 1x15. It's my main gigging amp, despite stiff competition (Clark Tyger, low power tweed twin, Twilighter 260, Ampeg Gemini II) back at the shack. What's to say ... it has so much sonic soul, really speaks to me. I'm always amazed to find so few people know the Sewell name. Doug has the touch.

I had one of the very early texaverb combos, it was a killer amp, rather like a super reverb, but more player friendly, even rounder, more controllable. Great amp. I also had (and still have a handle on) a very early wampus cat 25w tweed style amp which was a fat screamer, pretty much the ultimate lower volume blues amp. coupled with a tele bridge pickup, just one huge fat sound. Built to last a lifetime by a guy wholly dedicated to building the very best amps in the world, they were a joy to own. I still have a 60w 4x6L6 cathode biased monster Doug built specially for me which I treasure and use for pure blues gigs. It has a unique touch responsiveness and smooth but big 'power amp' breakup which I've never come across before.
