Saw the Fab Faux in Boston...
My wife saw a Beatles tribute band in Easton, PA called the Fab Faux, and she loved it. So much so, that she insisted that we try to see them together. (Getting in touch with her inner-groupie, I guess...)
I got an email from Berklee College of Music (where our son is in attendance) that the band would be playing, as it turns out, on Parents Weekend at Berklee. Well, we don't need much of an excuse to go to Boston, so we booked the trip and the tix to the show. The $100 seats bought us entrance to a "meet & greet" with the band after the show. The band brags they play the songs note for note, and they don't lie. Some of you know that the band is comprised of a bunch of crack musicians, including guitarist Jimmy Vivino (Max Weinberg Seven/Conan O'Brien), Will Lee, (bassist for Paul Shaffer's band on David Letterman), and drummer Rich Pagano. This is a nice venue and it has excellent acoustics and FOH engineering (natch!) and I got to drool over all the period correct (or at least period 'appearing') gear. Jimmy Vivino was playing a red SG for the most part, through a fawn AC30 and absolutely KILLED, especially on While My Guitar Gently Weeps. MAN! Will Lee is amazing on bass and seemed to be the band leader. He had a Ric as his main axe, with the requisite Hofner for the certain songs that called for it. (Beep Beep and Beep Beep, Yeh!) Rich Pagano reminds me a little of Kenny Aranov, only he has more hair and can sing. I actually said that to him after the show, and he told me he was offered Kenny's gig with John Fogerty but was unable to break for that gig!The band was backed by a string section (violin and viola) and a horn section (including Jimmy's brother on trumpet). One song they played was Penny Lane (this was their Psychedelia tour) and he nailed every single note on that odd horn (I forget what it's called.) Wow again! They also played "I Am The Walrus", which they mentioned the Beatles could never have played live, due to technological limitations back then. It was absolutely amazing. Coo Coo Catchoo! Jimmy was gracious enough to let me have my picture taken with him, as was Will Lee. I'm famous! Rich Pagano gave me an EP of his upcoming CD. I closed my eyes a bunch of times and I could swear I was at the Beatles concert I'd never get to see if not for these guys. It was an amazing experience! HMTM

Saw them do a Dave Clark 5 tribute on tv last year. They played "Catch Me If You Can" and "Penny Lane" Definately top notch musicians with a great feel for music from that period. If they ever play the midwest I would try to attend.

I understand that the guys are top of the barrel "pro's" and it would be great to meet them but $100.00 seats for a tribute act somehow strikes me as a bit much. Did you get a dinner with it too?

I didn't pay $100.00 to see Springsteen and he is my absolute favorite. Then again $100.00 to some people is chump change. Not knocking anyone for spending their money it just amazed me it would cost that much. Maybe it's because I'm from a small city in Ohio and not a "big" city.

Saw them just outside of Philadelphia on Saturday night. Did the entire White Album. Very impressive and accurate renditions. While My Guitar was a highlight. Highly recommend seeing them in person. I agree with the last poster that if you closed your eyes it was like hearing the Beatles perform in studio.

Eh... It's nice, but for those of us in the Twin Cities, well, we've had the best Beatles cover band for over 25 years: Curtiss A's Annual John Lennon Tribute concerts, every December at 1st Avenue.

I've seen The Fab Faux 2 times live in Cleveland
The Fab Faux are absolutely incredible! The best live act I've seen in many years. A must see for any Beatle fan......... This isn't just any "tribute band". |
