good guitar for jazz?

im looking for a good guitar for jazz. heard that semi-hollows are good, and that the best solidbody is a tele, but ive got one of those. so a semi-hollow
basically humbuckers are best right? but what about the p90s on a semi-hollow?
mainly i want this guitar to use in jazz band of my school that im auditioning for, but also i want to be able to use this in (you guessed it) church.

so i need
quality guitar
semi hollow
for jazz
great cleans
bodes well with pedals
should be under 1000
new or used i dont care
oh yes. and it should look good. i like beautiful things

kay, thanks guys

Look for a late '90s model made in the Samick Korean plant. Can be had for $400 or so in this market... ;-)

Depending on the kind of stuff that the jazz band plays, you should also consider fully hollow body archtops. I'd look into the Eastmans first (some can be found for ~$1000 used), then used D'Angelicos and Strombergs (the modern ones, not the >$50K originals). I just sold my D'Angelico Excel for $900. It was a great guitar for traditional jazz. The Samicks and the Ibanez Artcore lines are both surprisingly good considering their prices; I wish they were around when I started playing jazz. I wasn't that impressed with the Epiphones, but they might be alright with a careful setup. A friend of mine has a Schecter semi that sounds great, but it doesn't look terribly jazzy. There's also a PRS SE semi, but I haven't played one yet. That's certainly not a definitive list, but it should open up your options a bit.

I played an Epiphone Joe Pass not very long ago and was pleasantly surprised.

The guitar looks really good and plays really well. Binding everywhere, nice headstock, good quality finish. You should be able to find a new one for less than $600.

Good guitar for jazz? Any guitar!
Jazz isn't about the guitar, it's about the playing.
